Real Madrid officials are well aware that they need to make big changes to improve their level and become the successful team they were until they won their third straight Champions League and the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Even though their lack of scoring has been a recurrent problem for Los Blancos, they need to reinforce every area of the field, especially the defense. Sergio Ramos is one of the best center-backs in the history of the club, but it looks like his time in Madrid is coming to an end, as the defender isn’t getting any younger.
Now Madrid are said to be eyeing up Manchester City and France defender Aymeric Laporte as a replacement for the Spaniard. Ramos has been one of the best defenders in the world for the last decade, but his level has decreased and it seems like Real are going to need to bring in someone to take over from the former Sevilla star sooner rather than later.
According to Don Balon, Real are looking at Laporte, a player who’s known how to earn a spot in the Citizens starting lineup since his arrival from Athletic Bilbao in January 2017. They also noted that in order to land Laporte’s signature, Madrid are going to have to pay at least €100M, a fair price for one of the best defenders in football right now.
It’s not a secret that Real’s defense has been shaky in recent years, and none of Zidane, Solari and Lopetegui could help fix this problem. Fortunately, now Zidane looks set to bring his fellow countryman to the Bernabeu trying to strengthen his defense this season.
