Real Madrid officials know something has to change for the club to return to the headlines and they are reportedly planning big moves to try to turn things around. Some reports suggest that Los Blancos would intend to replace two of their stars next summer and they have big names on the radar.
According to Spanish publication El Desmarque, Zinedine Zidane is trying to get rid of Thibaut Courtois after a not-so-good start to the season that saw the Belgian goalkeeper receive a lot of criticism for his performances. Following the departure of Keylor Navas, Courtois became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, but so far he’s failed to convince everybody at the Santiago Bernabeu.
To replace the Belgium international, Madrid have reportedly targeted Unai Simon, who has made 14 seniors appearances for Athletic Bilbao. Zidane is said to be keen to sell Courtois next summer and bring in the 22-year-old, who has a €50 million release clause in his contract in Bilbao.
Besides, the Spanish giants are also targeting Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, and are planning to offer a swap deal for the Polish striker. According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, Los Blancos would offer a swap deal involving struggling Luka Jovic to Bayern.
This would be a shocking move for both clubs, but it could end up being a win-win situation for them. Lewandowski has been great with Bayern and he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, so Madrid could use him.
As for Jovic, he could be one for the future for Bayern, more knowing how great he did with Frankfurt.
These are two good and ambitious moves, but there is still time until next summer, so everything is not said on this matter. Still, both Jovic and Courtois have been receiving a lot of criticism recently; maybe a change of air is what they need.
