Tottenham Hotspur had a very entertaining summer transfer window, landing big names that are expected to take them to the top of the Premier League. However, the Lillywhites could be seeing how two of their best players leave the club this offseason, without leaving them any chance to find replacements.

The European transfer window shuts down next Monday, and both Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen might be heading through the exit door before that day following fresh speculation linking the pair with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively.

Both players will end their contracts at the end of this season and neither has been heavily involved in the opening weeks of the new Premier League season while their futures have remained up in the air.

Eriksen has just started in one of the three games his side has played so far this season, appearing as a substitute in the other two. Vertonghen, on the other hand, is yet to make his debut this term after being left out altogether for the season opener and not even getting off the bench since.

The Danish playmaker was linked with Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona and even Manchester United during the last days of the English transfer window, but the Red Devils pulled out at the last moment as Eriksen made it clear that he wanted to play overseas.

According to Le Parisien, Eriksen is on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar should Neymar leaves and re-joins Barcelona. A value of €80 million to €100 million is quoted for the 27-year-old, who was last season’s Premier League’s leading assister. Besides Eriksen, PSG are also interested in Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi.

As per Kicker, Vertonghen heading to Leverkusen before Monday seems more likely, with the German publication revealing that the Bundesliga club is keen to land the 32-year-old center-back. If Vertonghen leaves North London, that could be a problem for the Spurs.

Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez have started all three games so far this season, but the injured Juan Foyth is the only other central defender in the squad.

Perhaps using defensive midfielder Eric Dier could be an option for Mauricio Pochettino, but we still have to wait whether that happens or not.
