Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly trying to ruin Liverpool’s plans to sign Ajax star David Neres. The Brazilian forward has been great for the Lancers, racking up a lot of suitors in the past few months.

He was linked with Bayern Munich at some point, but it was Liverpool who signed their name in the list of candidates to sign Neres before Tottenham showed their interest in the young player. According to Calciomercato, the Reds have identified Neres as a transfer target following his impressive performances in the Netherlands.

Transfermarkt states that the Brazilian is currently valued at around €45 million and still has four years left to run on his current deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Last season he was great, helping his side to reach important stages in Europe and win a domestic double.

Now, Calciomercato reports the Spurs are ready to hijack any potential move Liverpool make for Neres next year, as Mauricio Pochettino is keen to improve his options in the attack. This term hasn’t been the best for Tottenham and the Lillywhites need to add quality to a team immersed in the biggest crisis of the Pochettino era.

They have racked up only 11 points in the first seven Premier League matches, losing games at home, being beaten by minor teams. To make things worse, they were trashed 7-2 by Bayern Munich earlier this week in the Champions League, a proof of how far behind the elite they have fallen in recent months.

Tottenham need to make some changes and bringing Neres could be very good for them. He has the talent and the experience the Spurs need to take that next step and actually compete for important things.
