Real Madrid got past Brugge 1-3 despite lining up several substitutes, making their way to the round of 16 after a slow start to the campaign.
And with the team slowly going back to their former level, Zinedine Zidane looked quite confident on their chances vs. everybody, even the reigning European champions, joking that they could eliminate them from the competition:
"If we play Liverpool, we will eliminate them," Zidane claimed during his post-match conference, as quoted by Goal.
On a more serious note, Zidane acknowledged that they can't do anything about the draw, and the fact that they'll face a group leader will make things quite complicated. However, he looked comfortable with the way his team performed vs. Brugge:
"We can't do anything about the draw. We are happy with the victory and with the way we played. We had difficulty with our game since they usually play with five at the back and, today, they played with four. It took 10 or 15 minutes for the players to adjust. The second half was better in every area," Zidane added.
Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr scored a couple of goals but Luka Jovic continues to struggle, playing for 77 minutes without any significant contribution. Still, Zidane claims it's only a matter of time before he gets more opportunities and finds his rhythm:
"I don't think he feels lost. He has played little and a player needs to play a lot to be well. I think he has done well and has to continue working as he does. It's a problem of mine, not yours. He needs to continue working and, every time he plays, respond. It's not easy because he doesn't play much, but he knows the situation. He needs to play, it's true," Zidane concluded.
Los Blancos will know their next rival on Friday when the UCL draw takes place. But judging by what they've shown lately, any group leader should be really scared.
