Zidane Plays Down Raphael Varane's Summer Exit

Real Madrid are going to be extremely aggressive in their pursuit of top-tier talents during this upcoming transfer window, as the team has underperformed throughout the entire season even amid Zinedine Zidane's appointment as their boss.

The team lacks depth and superstars with Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale all struggling to be at their best during the season and it's pretty clear that they desperately crave new faces if they want to go back to the dominant team they were not so long ago.

Moreover, it looks like they also may need to try and hold on to some of their current players if they don't want to spend a lot of money in the summer, especially those few that have actually lived up to the expectations throughout this disappointing campaign.

That's exactly the case with Raphael Varane, who was allegedly bound to make a move out of the team in the summer as he was already sick and tired of Real Madrid and was eager to take a step forward on his career following quite a successful stint at Santiago Bernabeu.

However, with him still under contract for the long run and with Zinedine Zidane so fond of his talents, it looks like Los Blancos are going to shut the door on a potential summer exit for the World Champion, according to Zidane's latest statements.

The Frenchman reiterated his desire to keep Varane beyond this season amid some interest from Juventus and Manchester United:

"The positive point of this season finale is that Varane will stay," Zidane told the media following Real Madrid's loss against Rayo Vallecano.

Varane is one of the most experienced young center-backs in the world and he's won every major tournament he's played, so perhaps Zidane is going to find it difficult to motivate him. Still, the team just can't afford to let him walk away right now.
