Real Madrid’s boss Zinedine Zidane has left the club’s pre-season camp for personal reasons. Zizou left Los Blancos training camp in Montreal and now assistant David Bettoni is set to lead the team in his absence.
Madrid just started their pre-season, preparing to compete in the Audi Cup and International Champions Cup this summer. Their first match will see them facing German giants Bayern Munich on 20 July.
The club took to their official website to explain that Zidane will not be in Montreal to work with his players after he left the training camp for what was described as 'personal reasons'. No additional information was given on the topic, other than the fact that Bettoni will be in charge of the team until the Frenchman returns to his duty.
According to AS, it is believed that Zidane will return in time to face Bayern in their first pre-season match, and he is still expected to have plenty of time to work with his refreshed and boosted squad.
Having secured the likes of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes this summer, the former midfielder will try to have as much time as he can with his new players before the next season starts. Besides Bayern, Madrid will also face Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur before the end of July.
They hope to have their helmsman back right in time to start the calendar of friendly matches. Last season Madrid were just not good, losing the chance to win every competition they play, which is why Zidane was brought back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
With Zizou back and their new additions, Los Blancos look set to take it all next campaign.
