We have collected the 10 greatest scorers in Warriors history, in PPG, to uncover which players had the most impact when they were with the team. Longevity does not come into play here, because pure scoring power in the time each player played with the team is the only statistic that will be shown. However, the list of top scorers in Warriors history will also be shared to show who truly is Mr. Warrior.

10. Joe Barry Carroll – 20.4 PPG

(7 Seasons, 1981-1988)

Joe Barry Carroll

The 7’0” Joe Barry Carroll made the All-Rookie Team to represent Golden State after he was drafted No. 1 overall in the 1980 Draft. Carroll averaged 18.9 PPG in his rookie year, before averaging a career-high 24.1 PPG in his 3rd season.

Joe Barry Carroll would actually make his first and only All-Star Team with the Warriors in the 1987 season by averaging 21.2 PPG and 7.3 RPG, the last full season with the team. “J.B.” would appear in 14 games in his last season, before getting traded to the Houston Rockets where he played 63 games.

9. Rudy LaRusso – 21.3 PPG

(2 Seasons, 1968-1969)

Rudy LaRusso

The 6’7” forward spent the last 2 years of his career with the San Francisco Warriors, at ages 30 and 31. In fact, these were the best 2 years of his career because up until that point, LaRusso only averaged 14.1 PPG with the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers.

Rudy LaRusso blossomed into an offensive force, averaging 21.8 PPG in his first season with the Warriors and followed that up with 20.7 PPG in his final season in the league. It is strange to see a player have his best years in his 30’s, but LaRusso made sure he made the top-10 scorers in the Warriors history list before retiring.

8. Bernard King – 22.5 PPG

(2 Seasons, 1981-1982)

Bernard King

Bernard King is mainly remembered for being one of the greatest scorers to ever play for the New York Knicks, but he was also an offensive force for the Warriors for 2 seasons in 1981 and 1982. King averaged 22.5 PPG over his 2 seasons with the Warriors, making the All-Star Team in 1982.

The 6’7” small forward was a force in the post, using his body to back defenders down and turning for a lightning-quick jumper. For years, King haunted defenders with his skill and grace as a scorer over his career. After a difficult season in 1980 where King only appeared in 19 games, he would kickstart his Hall of Fame career again with the Warriors before joining the Knicks.

7. Mitch Richmond – 22.7 PPG

(3 Seasons, 1989-1991)

Mitch Richmond

The Hall of Fame shooting guard spent the first 3 seasons of his career with the Golden State Warriors, averaging 22.7 PPG over those years. Richmond averaged 22.0 PPG on 46.8% shooting to capture Rookie of the Year and would go on to complete 10 straight seasons of averaging over 21 PPG.

Richmond’s scoring prowess from mid-range, deep, and around the rim was the reason he made the Hall of Fame. The All-Star scorer kickstarted his reign of consistency with the Warriors and is one of their greatest scorers ever despite not making his first All-Star Team until his 5th season.

6. Paul Arizin – 22.8 PPG

(10 Seasons, 1951-1962) *1953, 1954 DNP due to military service

Paul Arizin

Paul Arizin is one of the greatest Warriors stars ever because he lasted a decade with the team and made the Hall of Fame thanks to his accolades. Arizin made 10 All-Star Teams, 4 All-NBA Teams, and also captured the 1956 NBA championship. The 6’4” small forward had every offensive tool in the box and was a force in his era.

Averaging 17.2 PPG in his rookie season, Arizin won Rookie of the Year. He would lead the NBA in scoring the following season (25.4 PPG) by playing a monster 44.5 MPG and would do it again in 1957 by averaging 25.6 PPG in 71 total games played.

5. World B. Free – 23.4 PPG

(3 Seasons, 1981-1983)

World B. Free

The high-flying guard with the memorable name, World B. Free was a dominant scorer in the 162 games he played for the Warriors. The combo guard played 65 games in his first season with the Warriors, averaging 24.1 PPG and 5.6 APG, and followed that up with 22.9 PPG in 78 games the following season.

Despite lasting only 19 games in his 3rd season with the team, World B. Free is ranked as a top-5 scorer in Warriors history. His ability to contort his body in mid-air to score the ball was impeccable for a 6’2” guard, and few did it better in Warriors history.

4. Stephen Curry – 24.2 PPG

(12 Seasons, 2010-2021)

Mr. Golden State and the greatest shooter ever, Stephen Curry is the man who not only changed the NBA for the foreseeable future but also carries the Warriors franchise on his back. Golden State was a subpar team until Curry became a superstar in 2014, and the point guard has not looked back. Nobody expected Curry to blossom into the player he has become, and his scoring is the reason why.

Standing 6’3” and weighing 185 lbs, the slender point guard has dominated the NBA with his three-point shot for the past 7 years at least. Winning 2 MVPS, 3 titles, and 2 scoring titles; Curry is widely regarded as one of the best point guards ever. His 24.2 PPG average ranks 4th all-time in Warriors history, although he ranks 1st in total points scored.

3. Rick Barry – 25.6 PPG

(8 Seasons, 1966-1967, 1973-1978)

Rick-Barry

One of the most spectacular players of his generation, Rick Barry is a first-ballot Hall of Famer with an incredible resume that includes a scoring title, an NBA title, and a Finals MVP with the Warriors. Starting his career with the San Francisco Warriors, Barry won Rookie of the Year by averaging 25.7 PPG and 10.6 RPG.

The following season, the small forward would lead the NBA in scoring at 35.6 PPG. Barry would go on to play in the ABA, returning to the NBA to play for the Golden State Warriors. 2 years after his return, the dominant scorer would win the NBA title and Finals MVP in 1975. There is no surprise Rick Barry finds himself among the best scorers to ever play for the Warriors.

2. Kevin Durant – 25.8 PPG

(3 Seasons, 2017-2019)

Kevin Durant On His Future With The Warriors: “Just Watch the Game”

One of the greatest perimeter scorers ever, Kevin Durant made his mark with the Golden State Warriors in the short time he was there. He received a ton of criticism joining a 73-9 team that beat him one season earlier, but the 4-time scoring champion made his presence felt anyways by winning 2 straight championships and Finals MVPs.

Despite playing with All-Star scorers in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Durant was the best player and scorer on the team with a 25.8 PPG average in 3 seasons. The Slim Reaper was also efficient as ever, nailing 52.4% from the field and 88.3% from the free-throw line. Of course, Durant formed the most dominant trio in history with Curry and Thompson that will be remembered fondly by Warriors fans.

1. Wilt Chamberlain – 41.5 PPG

(6 Seasons, 1960-1965)

Wilt Chamberlain Had The New York Knicks Drop Him Home After He Scored 100 Points On Them: "You Guys Are Nice Sons Of B*tches. Letting Me Score 100 Points And Then Giving Me A Ride Back. Here's Gas Money."

Unsurprisingly, Wilt Chamberlain has the highest scoring average in Golden State Warriors history and it is not even close. Wilt averages over 15 PPG over Kevin Durant and lasted an extra 3 seasons with the franchise. There is simply no comparison to him in any era, and there never will be.

Chamberlain was drafted No. 3 overall by the Warriors, running away with Rookie of the Year averaging 37.6 PPG and 27.0 RPG. He would make the All-Star season over the next 5 seasons, including the 1962 season where Wilt averaged 50.4 PPG and 25.7 RPG. Of course, Chamberlain is famously remembered for dropping 100 points in a single season. In a nutshell, Wilt was the most dominant player to ever play for the Warriors.
