With the signing of Markieff Morris, the Los Angeles Lakers had to let go of 4x All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, who has yet to play a single minute for them this season.
The move caught many by surprise, but it may not be a permanent one.
According to a report by The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, the Lakers may be keen on bringing him back in 2020 free-agency.
Well, Cousins won’t be able to do that anymore. Per league rules, he can continue his rehab with the Lakers, at their practice facility, but he can’t fly on the team plane or sit on the bench once he’s waived. But the Lakers could re-sign him this summer, something both sides have expressed interest in pursuing, sources said.
Regardless of summer plans, Cousins will remain with the team through the season to continue his rehab.

It makes sense that the Lakers would let go of Cousins for now. He isn’t going to play again this season and there’s no use keeping him on the roster if he isn’t able to see the floor.
But there is an advantage in him re-signing with the team later. They can help DeMarcus win a Championship while he can provide his talents to them at a very low cost.
In 30 games with the Warriors last season, he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 48% shooting.
