The New York Knicks are a team that has vaulted itself into the playoffs conversation this season. Competitive basketball is back in New York, and the Knicks are currently 8th in the Eastern Conference. While they still have a long way to go until they become contenders, they do have a promising core. Perhaps in the offseason, the New York Knicks could add a piece to their roster to help them further compete.

One way that they could do that is via trade. A perfect star for the New York Knicks would be somebody who can score well on the offensive end while fitting in with Coach Thibodeau’s defensive-minded system. Such a player could be Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons. Here is a possible trade package:

New York Knicks Receive: Jerami Grant

Detroit Pistons Receive: Obi Toppin, Immanuel Quickley, Kevin Knox, two future first-round picks

The Detroit Pistons Build For The Future

Jerami Grant is without a doubt the best player on the Detroit Pistons. However, the team is losing, and they are currently in 15th place in the Eastern Conference. They are clearly tanking and trying to get players that they can develop. Jerami Grant is already 27, and his timeline doesn’t necessarily fit with players like Killian Hayes and Sekou Doumbouya. Perhaps Grant could ask for a trade this offseason, in order to go to a playoff team. If he does, the New York Knicks could potentially interest the Detroit Pistons with a trade package.

The trade package features two young prospects: Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley. Obi Toppins would immediately be a replacement at PF for Grant. With the Detroit Pistons, he could see more touches that would help him develop into a great player. Immanuel Quickley is an exciting rookie guard who is fairly good from beyond the arc, averaging 37.8% from the 3PT range. Kevin Knox is a solid 3 and D guard, averaging 41.0% from beyond the arc this season. There are also two first-round picks that are included in the trade package, as the Detroit Pistons would certainly require some sort of draft compensation. Overall, this seems like a great potential trade package.

The New York Knicks Create A Big 3

In the modern era, it seems like a lot of championships are won using star power. While that is not always the case, having more star players generally helps teams win. If they trade for Jerami Grant then they could end up having a big three in Madison Square Garden. Jerami Grant would add another scorer onto their roster, as well as someone who can play either forward position. Jerami Grant would also make life easier for Julius Randle, as he is a consistent 3PT shooter who can play off of others if need be. Playing next to another All-Star would in turn help Jerami Grant play his own game, as there are many instances where he faces double teams on the Pistons due to him being their only scoring threat.

Jerami Grant is the perfect forward for the modern NBA era. He can switch on defense, he can shoot, and he can create for himself. The New York Knicks would become a menacing defensive team with his addition, as they would have length and athleticism throughout the starting lineup. The New York Knicks would be a team that could give Jerami Grant the opportunity to play in the postseason, while still letting him have a significant role. It would definitely be fun to see Jerami Grant play in Madison Square Garden: acquiring him could take the Knicks to the next level.
