Empire Writes Back

Kyrie Irving is one of the most polarizing figures in the NBA today. The 7-time NBA All-Star draws a lot of criticism from fans and analysts alike because of how he approaches the sport of basketball.

Irving is one of the most earnest figures in basketball, and he often speaks his mind about issues on and off the court without any filter. Irving’s unabashed nature doesn’t always go down well with the rest of the basketball community. But the talent behind his play cannot be denied.

On top of that, Irving’s endeavors off the court as well, especially his interactions with fans and his philanthropic activities often show that he does care about the world and the people around him. One such interaction was caught on camera by a fan that got to see him.

Fans spotted Irving, with one young fan asking him whether he could get a picture with him. Irving initially declined, saying that he was in a hurry because he wanted to pick up flowers for his partner.

Fan: “Kyrie, can I get a picture real quick?”

Kyrie: “Nah I gotta go pick up flowers for my special lady, man”

In the video (swipe to the second slide), the fan clarified that Irving did eventually stop to take pictures with the young fan before he ultimately left. The fan clearly knew the reputation that Irving has, and wanted to dispel any negative perception about the former NBA champion.

Irving continues to play at the highest level on the court. He and the Brooklyn Nets had a solid performance, as he and fellow All-Stars James Harden and Kevin Durant joined forces to become the most dynamic offensive trio in NBA history.

Injuries hampered the Nets in the playoffs, as Kyrie was unavailable during the series against the Milwaukee Bucks. But if all three players stay healthy through the season, the Nets will be the favorites to clinch the title next season.
