When Andre Drummond signed with the Lakers last season, fans swooned at the thought of watching him do his thing under the rim alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
And while Drummond did provide a steady presence in the paint for L.A., his tenure with the franchise was short-lived, as he now sits in the aftermath of his signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.
During his introductory press conference, Drummond shared some information on why he left the Purple and Gold to land in Philly.
“Times is changing, and they made different trades and different changes to their team to where it didn’t make sense for me to go back there,” Drummond said during his introductory press conference for the Sixers, via Sam Leweck of Lakers Daily. “I just took the next best thing after that, and it was to come to Philly. I think it’s a great fit for me.”
Evidently, Drummon adjust wasn’t part of L.A.’s long-term plans. Instead of re-signing him, they decided to chase Dwight Howard instead, essentially guaranteeing Drummond would have no playing time if he stayed.
In Philly, he’ll be a regular part of the rotation. As Joel Embiid’s backup, he’ll have an important role, especially if the superstar big man struggles to stay healthy.
Regardless, Dre gets the chance to start fresh. We’ll see how things go during this new chapter of his career, and if the Lakers end up regretting not bringing him back.
