Jimmy Butler‘s relationship with the Miami Heat has deteriorated to a very low level. A report a few days ago revealed that the Heat delayed Jimmy Butler’s salary payment over the summer, and this caused the friction between the Heat and Butler to begin.

Former NBA player Nik Stauskas, who was the eighth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, slammed Butler on X for this while telling a story of a similar experience he had while on the Brooklyn Nets, and how he handled it professionally.

“When I played for the Nets in 2018, my first two months I got paid less than what I was owed. Wasn’t until my mom pointed it out to the team, that they corrected it. Errors happen. That’s not a legitimate reason to have a bad relationship with the organization. Be a professional.”

Of course, if this report is true, it doesn’t paint Butler in the best light, as it makes him look impatient, unprofessional, and petulant, as it was an accounting error from the team’s accounting department that was corrected fairly quickly. But of course, this is far from the only reason for the breakdown in the relationship with the Miami Heat.

In the summer of 2024, after the NBA playoffs, Heat president Pat Riley called out Jimmy Butler for talking about the Boston Celtics when he was injured, telling him to shut his mouth. We learned recently that this comment from Pat Riley caused the breakdown in his relationship with Butler.

Butler’s relationship only got worse throughout the season, as he was upset with the franchise for not offering him a contract extension. Earlier this month, Butler publically announced his desire to be traded, which prompted the Heat to suspend him for seven games.

Since then, we have learned more about the deteriorating relationship between the former All-Star and the Heat. One of the key sticking points has been the Heat’s inability to land a second superstar to shoulder some of the burden that he had faced in the playoffs.

Butler is doing everything in his power to force a trade. He has begun no-showing Heat practices and insisted on traveling privately rather than with the team. So far, we know that Riley has a few offers for Butler on the table, and is weighing them up going forward. He also conveyed his desire to be traded in a private, face-to-face meeting with Riley.

We don’t know where Butler will end up, but we have pitched a few ideas that we think are realistic. A massive four-team trade could be the big step the Heat could take to end the Jimmy Butler era. Or Butler could get his wish, and join the Phoenix Suns in this blockbuster trade featuring Bradley Beal.

Another potential move could see Butler join the young, rising Detroit Pistons, and team up with Cade Cunningham. This could help the Pistons rise to a playoff contender once again. But there is also the possibility Butler stays past the deadline, as he cryptically liked a post hinting at him sticking around.

This Jimmy Butler saga has dragged on for a long time and will continue to do so, presumably till the February 6th trade deadline. Stay tuned to Fadeaway World, as we have all the latest updates on the matter and some intriguing mock trade ideas.
