It’s easy to forget this crucial fact: the NBA is a business. No matter what happens behind the scenes, or what promises are made between the organization and their player, both sides are just looking after themselves in the end, and nobody owes anybody anything.
Recently, former Pelicans star JJ Redick expressed some major displeasure at his former team for not keeping their word of trading him to the Northeast.
It’s definitely understandable why he’s so upset — the guy just wants to be close to his family, after all. Still, his quote didn’t sit well with a lot of people, including Robert Horry and Richard Jefferson, who had some harsh things to say to Redick about daring to assume the Pelicans owe him anything…

This dude so entitled in his own mind. Maybe he should have resigned in Philly after we overpaid his ass for 2 years. He was the first FA to move after that to N.O. over a couple mill. Greed got him, now he's whining

On one hand, David Griffin gave Redick his word — which he didn’t follow through on.
On the other hand, the NBA is a business, and if the Pelicans want to make a trade they feel is right for their team, they have a right to do that.
Obviously, the matter is a bit controversial, and it will be interesting to see if Redick responds to the words of his former colleagues.
