NBA Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers Should Land Kristaps Porzingis And Create The Real Big Three

The Brooklyn Nets created one of the best big threes in the league when they traded for James Harden. The Brooklyn Nets have been on a roll in recent memory, and have looked unstoppable at times. At this point, there is no team in the league that has the star power that they do: the Brooklyn Nets are a superteam. Other teams need to match their talent to compete.

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the obvious teams that can compete with the Brooklyn Nets with the addition of another piece. Anthony Davis and LeBron James are already a fantastic duo, and with the addition of another star player, they could create their own big three. Kristaps Porzingis is someone that they could target to bolster their roster. Here is a potential trade package.

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Kristaps Porzingis

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Alex Caruso, Talen Horton-Tucker, 2027 Lakers first-round pick

The Mavericks Get A Solid Package For A Star

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that has one of the brightest prospects in the world in Luka Doncic, and a star-caliber player in Kristaps Porzingis. Despite this, they have underachieved this season, and are currently the 8th seed in the Western Conference. Their performances haven’t quite fulfilled the expectations that they had at the start of the season, and perhaps, that means Kristaps Porzingis could be traded. Many expected the Mavericks to make a jump, but that hasn’t happened. Trading Porzingis would allow them to gain some pieces that could help them build around Doncic for the ability to compete in the future.

Montrezl Harrell would be a primary piece in this trade to replace the void at the big man position that would happen with Porzingis’ departure. Harrell was last year’s Sixth Man of the Year award winner and could thrive in a bigger offensive role. He would also have an elite playmaker in Luka Doncic feeding him easy baskets, similar to LeBron James on the Lakers. This would be Harrell’s opportunity to show what he could do in a starting role.

Talen Horton-Tucker is a young guard who is just scratching the surface of his potential: he looks like a fundamentally sound guard. Tucker is good defensively and competent on the offensive end. More minutes and more touches on the Mavericks could help him improve as a player. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Alex Caruso are both solid 3 and D players, which are essential to any contender. The Lakers’ pick is in 2027, meaning that it could be good years down the line. This is a nice package for a solid star player.

The Lakers Would Destroy The Nets Inside

Kristaps Porzingis gives the Los Angeles Lakers another unicorn next to Anthony Davis. We have seen Anthony Davis paired with another mobile big man in DeMarcus Cousins before: the partnership was working well until Cousins’ injury that season. Having two big men who also have some guard-like skills could be a solid move for the Lakers. It would give them more size on their roster, meaning that they could dominate inside. In terms of matching up with the Brooklyn Nets, it could be amazing.

The Brooklyn Nets don’t really have an elite big man, not even with Blake Griffin’s signing. There is no way that Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan would be able to match up with two elite offensive big men, especially ones who can step out and hit perimeter shots as well. Kristaps Porzingis and Anthony Davis would dominate the paint with their offensive skillsets, while also providing adequate spacing for LeBron James. Former DPOY Marc Gasol would still be on the roster as well, and his size and shooting would provide a diminished version of what Porzingis and Davis offer.

On the defensive end, it is obvious that the rim protection would be elite between two amazing big men. Dennis Schroder and Kyle Kuzma are both solid defenders on the perimeter and can run with the Brooklyn Nets to defend against Kyrie Irving and James Harden. LeBron James would obviously be guarding Kevin Durant. Adding Porzingis to the team would hypercharge an already good defense. While no-one can truly guard the superstars on the Brooklyn Nets, the Lakers could still make their life difficult.

Adding Kristaps Porzingis to the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster could be the perfect move. It has no real drawbacks and offers the Lakers their third star to help them beat the Brooklyn Nets.
