NBA Rumors: Ben Simmons Is A Dream Target For The Warriors, Not Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Golden State Warriors are in a privileged position right now. They’re entitled to the 2nd overall pick of the Draft to add more talent to an already impressive core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Eric Paschall.

The Dubs are going to be back at full strength next season and some people think they’re tempted towards trading away that 2nd overall pick for a player that fits their current timeline and is ready to contribute right away.

And while Giannis Anteotkounmpo’s name has often been brought up as the Warriors’ dream target, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report recently said that trading for Ben Simmons would actually make a lot of more sense given the Warriors’ current roster:

“While the Warriors will inevitably throw everything outside of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson at the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ben Simmons may actually be a better fit on the roster.

Simmons’ skill set has become a super-charged version of Draymond Green’s, able to defend at a DPOY level and making any pass necessary on the court. With his brief move from point guard to power forward, he could be inserted anywhere in the Warriors starting lineup and head coach Steve Kerr would figure out a way to make it work.

Also, putting a player whose only real weakness is outside shooting next to the greatest three-point-shooting backcourt of all time feels like a natural fit as Simmons seems perfectly happy as a table-setter who may never be a 20-point-per-game scorer.

The Warriors may have to bring in a third team to send some established talent toward Philadelphia (the New Orleans Pelicans’ Jrue Holiday would be a good start), and they have the No. 2 overall pick in this draft and the Minnesota Timberwolves’ top-three-protected selection in 2021 as primary trade bait,” read the report.

It’s also worth noting that, while Simmons is one of the Sixers’ cornerstones, he may be easier to lure away from his current team than Giannis Antetokounmpo, especially if the Bucks make a deep run in the playoffs.

What has to be encouraging for Warriors fans is the fact that they’re in control of their own destiny and have plenty of options to choose from. The dynasty is far from over, guys.
