Stephen A. Smith: ‘Dwight Howard Is Not A Hall Of Famer’

As an 8x All-Star and 3x Defensive Player of the Year, Dwight Howard’s status as Hall-of-Famer sounds like a given. What he’s accomplished in 15 years is more than what most guys can even dream of.

But even with all that he has accomplished, dysfunction, doubt, and instability have headlined his career — calling into doubt his chances at being an NBA Hall-of-Famer.

For Stephen A. Smith, while he recognizes that Dwight has a chance, he rejected the idea that D12 is a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer.

I don’t believe Dwight Howard is a Hall of Famer. However, I think he has a chance to be HOF. Dwight is certainly not first ballot.

The case for Howard’s HOF status can be made both ways. One could argue that even with all that he has done, he hasn’t nearly enough to warrant entry — especially after the string of abysmal seasons he had following his departure from Houston.

On the other side, he was once considered the best big in the game — and has multiple accolades to show for it. If he continues to play at the pace he has this year, he could help sway some votes this way.

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out in the end.
