NBA Rumors: 5 Best Destinations For DeMarcus Cousins

It’s been almost a week since free agency started and, according to the latest reports, there are still no takers for DeMarcus Cousins, up to the point where he even changed his agent on the brink of his slow market.

  • 5. Miami Heat
  • 4. San Antonio Spurs
  • 3. Chicago Bulls
  • 2. Boston Celtics
  • 1. Los Angeles Lakers

Everybody’s underestimating Cousins right now and they seem to forget that he was one of the most unstoppable players in the league two years ago, and now that he’ll have a full summer to restore his health, he will be ready for the next season.

So, what’s better than a huge, physical presence like Cousins on a mission to prove he’s still an elite player? Let’s take a look at the top 5 teams that should definitely take a gamble on him and offer him a good deal.

5. Miami Heat

The Miami Heat just took a major step forward by acquiring Jimmy Butler via sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, and it looks like they’ll be needing more depth below the rim after shipping away Hassan Whiteside.

A Butler-Cousins-Dragic Big 3 would definitely be entertaining to watch and a team to look for in the Eastern Conference, even though his personality could really collide with Butler’s alpha-dog mentality.

4. San Antonio Spurs

According to the latest rumors, DeMar DeRozan has actually reached out to DeMarcus Cousins about the possibility of him joining him at San Antonio, where he’d also play next to LaMarcus Aldridge.

If anyone knows how to make the most of the players nobody else wanted, that’s Gregg Popovich, and he’s also a perfect guy to tame his character. The Spurs are going to be better next season for sure, and adding Boogie may put them in the Championship-contender tier.

3. Chicago Bulls

Ok, we get that the Chicago Bulls aren’t Championship-bound as of yet. Hell, they may not even make the playoffs this year, but adding Cousins could really help them take a major leap forward right away.

The Bulls have an astonishing young core with Coby White, Zach LaVine, Otto Porter Jr, Lauri Markkanen, and Wendell Carter Jr, Rounding that up with a veteran All-Star like Cousins could really help them go back to contention.

2. Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics were dealt a major blow when Al Horford decided to leave them and join the Philadelphia 76ers, and with them trading away Aron Baynes, they’re kind of shorthanded at the big men spot.

Cousins would be a major upgrade over Enes Kanter and he’s not likely to demand much money, especially if he has the chance to compete for an NBA Championship. The Celtics need another All-Star, so there it is.

1. Los Angeles Lakers

And finally, now that nobody’s eager to pay Cousins big money, he should really look up to the opportunity of playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, regardless of if Kawhi Leonard joins them or not.

Everybody’s turning their back on Cousins, but he’s already proven to be a major force next to his friend Anthony Davis, and a year dressed in purple and gold would be more than enough to help him take his market value up again.
