The 2025 NBA Draft Class is being heralded as another generational class similar to the 2023 Class who made a big impact in their rookie season. VJ Edgecombe (20.5 PPG) is a projected top-three pick who is representing the Bahamas in the Olympic Qualification Tournament, dominating through the first two games and outplaying NBA star teammates such as Buddy Hield, Eric Gordon, and Deandre Ayton.

Edgecombe opened the Qualifying Tournament with 20 points, four rebounds, and two steals on 7-11 shooting from the field in their opening win against Finland. He followed that up with a dominant 21 points, six rebounds, and one steal performance on 7-13 shooting in their win over Spain.

His contributions have enabled the Bahamas to secure qualification to the semi-final stage, two wins away from making it to Paris 2024. Despite having NBA veterans such as Gordon, Ayton, and Hield alongside him, Edgecombe’s jump-out-the-paper athleticism and high motor have allowed the stars to defer to the 18-year-old.

“He’s special,” Hield said about Edgecombe. “He’s gonna be around for a long time. I mean, me, EG [Eric Gordon], Franco [Miller], DA [Deandre Ayton], we put him on our wings. He’s going to be alright.”

“He’s a great athlete, man. You gotta love it,” new 76er Gordon said about VJ. “I love it as his teammate. I’m ready to see him grow. He’s going to be an NBA player, and he knows it. From now on, he needs to have the mindset of trying to be the best.”

He’s currently committed to playing for Baylor, the college that produced Yves Missi from the 2024 NBA Draft. Edgecombe will be an explosive freshman in the NCAA, with people keeping a close eye on how his shot plays out at the college level. His defensive fundamentals are already really solid, with Baylor known for creating elite defensive prospects.

VJ Edgecombe Will Be A Star In The 2025 NBA Draft

We may have a lot more to discuss when it comes to Edgecombe if the Bahamas actually makes it to the Olympics with him playing such a big role in their success. Even without his success on the international stage, Edgecombe is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in ESPN’s 2025 NBA Draft rankings

He could have room to grow by the end of the season but his base game shows him off as a do-it-all utility swingman in the NBA. He’s proven he can score the ball from all three levels, especially thriving when it comes to attacking the rim and finishing. His playmaking is also a developing skill, while his defense has been elite at the high school level.

Edgecombe would be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 Draft by a mile but he might top out among the top four in the 2025 Class behind the likes of Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, and Dylan Harper. But the NCAA season is a long one, and Edgecombe could either be a riser that pushes the top prospects or incredible value for any team selecting at four or lower.
