LeBron James reflected on a pivotal moment in his illustrious career during a recent appearance on The Shop podcast. Recounting the 2013 NBA season, LeBron expressed his belief that he should have been the first unanimous MVP winner but fell just short due to one particular vote from a writer based in Boston.

“I also had the opportunity to be, I would’ve been the first unanimous MVP where I got all 120 votes. But I got 119. There was one vote where he voted for Carmelo…The writer is from Boston, of course. I know his name too, but I ain’t going to give him that light just yet, I’ll wait for the doc on that.”

First he told us he was robbed of DPOY and now hes saying he was robbed of a unanimous MVP 🤣

Securing an impressive 120 out of 121 first-place votes, LeBron was on the verge of making history as the first player to receive a unanimous MVP selection. However, one writer, identified as Gary Washburn from the Boston Globe, cast his vote for Carmelo Anthony instead.

LeBron, acknowledging this pivotal moment, hinted at potential bias from a city known for its rivalry with LeBron’s teams over the years. While LeBron refrained from naming Washburn directly, the impact of his vote left a lasting impression on LeBron’s legacy.

LeBron’s discontent extended beyond individual accolades, as he questioned the integrity of the voting process. He criticized the lack of scrutiny and understanding among voters, emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making in such prestigious awards.

During the 2012-2013 NBA season, LeBron James showcased his unparalleled skill set, leading the Miami Heat to an impressive regular-season record of 66 wins and 16 losses. His individual statistics were equally remarkable, averaging 26.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.

What truly set him apart was his exceptional efficiency, boasting a field goal percentage of 56.5% and a three-point shooting percentage of 40.6%. LeBron’s consistent dominance on both ends of the court solidified his status as one of the league’s premier players.

Meanwhile, LeBron’s MVP rival, Carmelo Anthony, delivered a standout performance for the New York Knicks. Despite the Knicks finishing the regular season with a respectable record of 54 wins and 28 losses, they fell short of the Heat’s mark. Carmelo’s individual contributions, however, were undeniable, as he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.

While his scoring prowess was evident, his efficiency slightly trailed behind LeBron’s, with a field goal percentage of 44.9% and a three-point shooting percentage of 37.9%. Nonetheless, Carmelo’s stellar season posed a compelling challenge to LeBron’s MVP candidacy, igniting debates among fans and analysts alike.

Despite their outstanding performances, LeBron and Melo found themselves in a closely contested race for the MVP title. LeBron’s exceptional leadership and on-court prowess were evident in the Miami Heat’s historic 66-16 record, further bolstering his MVP candidacy.

Ultimately, LeBron’s reflections on the MVP snub disappointment serve as reminders of the complexities and subjectivities inherent in professional sports accolades. Despite the setbacks, LeBron’s enduring legacy as a dominant force in basketball history remains undisputed.

LeBron James Also Complained About Not Winning DPOY

LeBron James, widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, has an impressive trophy collection that includes 4 NBA championships, 4 MVP awards, and 20 All-Star selections. However, there’s one notable absence in his accolades that continues to perplex him: the Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award.

In a candid discussion on “The Shop,” LeBron expressed his frustration at never winning the DPOY, likening the snub to Beyonce never winning Album of the Year at the Grammys despite having the most Grammys overall. LeBron’s comments shed light on his disappointment at being overlooked for an award that he believes he deserved at least once in his illustrious career.

The closest LeBron came to winning the DPOY was during the 2012-2013 season when he finished second behind Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite being named to the All-Defensive first team, LeBron couldn’t secure the top defensive honor, which still stings for the basketball icon.

Additionally, LeBron highlighted the irony of the situation by pointing out that Gasol didn’t even make the All-Defensive first team that season, further emphasizing the subjective nature of the award-voting process.

Throughout his career, LeBron has consistently showcased his defensive prowess, particularly during his prime years with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers. Standing at 6’9″ and 250 pounds, LeBron’s combination of size, strength, and agility made him a formidable force on the defensive end of the court. He often took on the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s best scorers and had a significant impact on their performance.

Despite never winning the DPOY, LeBron’s defensive contributions have not gone unnoticed. He has been instrumental in anchoring some of the best defensive teams in the league, and his defensive highlights, including his iconic block in the 2016 NBA Finals, serve as a testament to his defensive prowess.

As LeBron approaches the latter stages of his career, the opportunity to win the DPOY may have passed him by, with Anthony Davis now leading the defensive charge for the Los Angeles Lakers. Nonetheless, LeBron’s defensive legacy remains intact, reminding fans and critics alike of his enduring impact on both ends of the basketball court.
