In the latest rumblings out of Indiana, the word on the street is that the Pacers are looking for help to support their All-Star point guard. With several assets to spare, and plenty of incentive to make a move, the Pacers are in a prime position to make some changes to the roster, and they could look towards the Golden State Warriors to make it happen. Indiana reportedly has an interest in Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga in a potential deal.

“I keep hearing Andrew Wiggins’ name [attached to Indiana],” said Yahoo’s Jake Fischer. “I know that Jonathan Kuminga was another Warriors player that the Pacers have been keeping tabs on and calling Golden State about dating back to last draft.”

The Pacers and Warriors are two teams in very different spots this season, but they are well-suited to help each other. If Indiana is willing to send back Myles Turner or Bruce Brown in the deal, it could be enough to convince the Warriors to make a move and get the ball rolling on turning the season around. Two wing players as talented as Wiggins and Kuminga will not come cheap, and the Warriors have made it clear that they are in no hurry to send them away. But if things keep going at this pace, they may not have a choice but to make some tough decisions about their roster.

Warriors On The Brink

After a strong start this season (6-2 over the first 8 games), the Warriors have struggled to get it going on the court. At 17-20 and 12th in the West, the Dubs are currently out of the postseason picture entirely and are at rock bottom following back-to-back blowout losses at home. With reports that everyone but Curry is on the table, one has to wonder how long it will be before the Warriors make a trade and shake things up in a major way.

As two of the biggest sources of uncertainty this season, Kuminga and Wiggins have earned their place at the top of the trade market and the Warriors are expected to consider every offer that comes their way. The truth is, failure at this level is just not an option for a Warriors team that is on the books for over $211 million this season.

Haliburton Needs Help

As one of the league’s most explosive and unstoppable offenses this season, the Indiana Pacers are a tough matchup for any opponent and we saw that to full effect during the in-season tournament when they came within one win of the in-season tournament championship. But without the proper personnel on defense, the Pacers have not shown enough resistance to stop teams from outscoring them. Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga are not world-class defenders by any stretch, but they would certainly help add some depth and size to Indiana’s frontcourt.

At 22-15, the Pacers are not far from being a legitimate playoff threat and one or two more moves could be all it takes to elevate them to the next level. With plenty of time to go before February’s deadline, the Pacers are in no rush to find a solution this season but don’t expect them to look away if Wiggins or Kuminga happens to be available for the right price. They could also go for a true All-Star this season if they feel that Tyrese Haliburton is ready to compete on the biggest stage…
