Obviously, offense is at an all-time high right now and we are blessed to witness the best who did it when it comes to scoring the ball. It’s time to meet the linchpins, the architects of triumph, as we break down the Best Offensive and Defensive Player on Every NBA Team.
Atlanta Hawks
Offensive Player: Trae Young (27.2 PPG, 10.8 APG, 41.7% FG, 35.8% 3-PT FG, 2.1 OWS)
Defensive Player: Clint Capela (10.3 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 1.7 BPG, 0.5 DWS)
Trae Young has emerged as one of the most electrifying young talents in the NBA, with a game that blends exceptional ball-handling, court vision, and an uncanny ability to score from anywhere on the floor. Young’s impact goes beyond scoring; he’s the engine that drives Atlanta’s high-octane offense, and his ability to create scoring opportunities for his teammates is reflected in his impressive assist numbers (27.2 points, 10.8 assists per game in 2024).
On the defensive end, Clint Capela provides a formidable presence in the paint for the Atlanta Hawks. Capela’s shot-blocking prowess and rebounding ability make him a defensive stalwart. His tenacity on the boards also contributes significantly to the Hawks’ ability to control possessions. Capela’s impact is not only felt in individual statistics (10.3 RPG, 1.7 BPG) but also in the team’s overall defensive efficiency, making him an indispensable asset as the Hawks aim to compete at the highest level.
Boston Celtics
Offensive Player: Jayson Tatum (27.4 PPG, 4.2 APG, 49.1% FG, 34.9% 3-PT FG, 1.4 OWS)

Jayson Tatum, the versatile forward for the Boston Celtics, has established himself as a premier offensive threat in the league. His offensive repertoire includes a silky-smooth jumper, an explosive first step, and an improving playmaking dimension. Tatum’s scoring proficiency extends to clutch moments, making him a go-to option when the game is on the line. As he continues to evolve, Tatum remains a cornerstone of the Celtics’ offensive identity.
While Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford are elite defenders, Jrue Holiday emerges as a defensive linchpin. Holiday’s defensive tenacity, versatility, and basketball IQ make him a disruptive force on the court. His knack for generating steals, drawing charges, and providing intense on-ball pressure injects energy into the Celtics’ defense. So far this season, Holiday has replaced what Marcus Smart used to bring to the team.
Brooklyn Nets
Offensive Player: Mikal Bridges (23.0 PPG, 3.9 APG, 48.6% FG, 38.3% 3-PT FG, 1.5 OWS)
Defensive Player: Nic Claxton (9.2 RPG, 0.5 SPG, 2.4 BPG, 0.6 DWS)
For the Brooklyn Nets, the offensive juggernaut is Mikal Bridges. Starting his career as a defensive-minded wing, Bridges has been thrust into a scoring role for the Nets and has greatly improved his game, acting as a go-to player for the team. Whether it is from three or by attacking the rim, Bridges is easily an above-average talent who can still defend at a high level.
As for the defensive anchor of the Brooklyn Nets, Nic Claxton has emerged as a promising force in protecting the rim and disrupting opponents. While he may not be a household name just yet, Claxton’s impact on the defensive end has been notable. With his shot-blocking ability and agile movements, Claxton provides a defensive presence in the paint at 6’11”.
Charlotte Hornets
Offensive Player: LaMelo Ball (24.7 PPG, 8.2 APG, 44.3% FG, 38.8% 3-PT FG, 0.6 OWS)
Defensive Player: Mark Williams (9.7 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 1.1 BPG, 0.4 DWS)
LaMelo Ball, the charismatic and skillful point guard for the Charlotte Hornets, is the heartbeat of the team’s offense. In his young career, Ball has quickly become known for his flashy playmaking, impressive court vision, and knack for electrifying plays. Ball’s flair and creativity inject a unique energy into the Hornets’ playing style, and his impact extends beyond statistics, shaping the team’s identity and fostering a fast-paced, dynamic offense.
Mark Wiliams has been a standout on the defensive end. Williams’ incredible size at 7’0” and 241 lbs makes him a force inside the paint but he is particularly effective at blocking shots and changing the trajectory of many others. At only 21 years old, Williams will only get better and more effective with time.
Chicago Bulls
Offensive Player: DeMar DeRozan (22.3 PPG, 5.3 APG, 43.7% FG, 36.5% 3-PT FG, 1.5 OWS)
Defensive Player: Alex Caruso (3.4 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 0.5 DWS)
DeMar DeRozan has found a new home in Chicago and quickly become the linchpin of the Bulls’ offense, even if he plays alongside another elite scorer in Zach LaVine. His clutch performances in close games and his proficiency in isolation plays make him a go-to scorer for the Bulls. DeRozan’s offensive versatility and experience bring a dynamic element to the Bulls’ lineup, elevating the team’s scoring potential.
Alex Caruso, often affectionately referred to as the “Bald Mamba,” has become a defensive stalwart for the Chicago Bulls. Known for his tenacity, high basketball IQ, and willingness to do the dirty work, Caruso brings a gritty defensive mindset to the team. The 2022-23 All-NBA Defensive Team member can disrupt passing lanes, provide on-ball pressure, and make timely defensive plays has endeared him to Bulls fans.

Defensive Player: Evan Mobley (10.5 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 1.7 BPG, 1.2 DWS)
Donovan Mitchell is the go-to offensive player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His smooth ball-handling, perimeter shooting, and ability to navigate through defenses make him an essential piece of the Cavaliers’ offensive puzzle. He posted a career-high 28.3 points per game last year and has not slowed down just yet. Time will tell if he will be a long-term player for the franchise going forward.
Evan Mobley, the highly-touted center for the Cleveland Cavaliers, has quickly made a name for himself on the defensive end. In his debut season, Mobley showcased his defensive versatility, averaging over one steal and nearly two blocks per game. Standing at 7 feet tall with impressive agility, Mobley can guard multiple positions, protect the rim, and disrupt opposing offenses.
Dallas Mavericks
Offensive Player: Luka Doncic (32.0 PPG, 8.9 APG, 48.3% FG, 38.5% 3-PT FG, 2.5 OWS)
Defensive Player: Dereck Lively II (8.1 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 1.6 BPG, 0.7 DWS)
Luka Doncic, the young maestro from Slovenia, has become the face of the Dallas Mavericks and a transcendent offensive talent in the NBA. His impact goes beyond individual statistics; he serves as the engine that drives the Mavericks’ offense, and his basketball IQ allows him to orchestrate plays with exceptional vision when he isn’t scoring. As one of the leading MVP candidates in the league, Doncic is only getting better as he begins to draw comparisons to the great Larry Bird.
Dereck Lively II is proving to be a fantastic prospect for the Mavericks, as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Dallas has been crying out for a capable defensive big man and Lively II has proven to be just that. He is only 19 years old, however, so he still needs a few years before he can be judged on whether he can be the long-term answer for the Mavericks going forward.
Denver Nuggets
Offensive Player: Nikola Jokic (27.2 PPG, 9.4 APG, 53.8% FG, 31.2% 3-PT FG, 3.5 OWS)
Defensive Player: Aaron Gordon (7.3 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 0.7 DWS)
Nikola Jokic, the Serbian sensation and reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, is the heartbeat of the Denver Nuggets’ offense. As a center, Jokic’s passing ability is particularly exceptional, earning him the moniker of the only “Point Center” in NBA history. His basketball IQ, court vision, and scoring versatility make him a nightmare matchup for opponents. With an array of post moves, a reliable three-point shot, and a knack for finding open teammates, Jokić’s offensive prowess cements him as one of the most valuable assets in the league as he looks to try to win his third MVP award.
A versatile forward, Aaron Gordon brings a defensive edge to the Denver Nuggets. Known for his athleticism and ability to guard multiple positions, Gordon contributes to rim protection and perimeter defense. He was easily the best defensive player for the Nuggets last season because he can handle five positions at a time if needed and has come a long way from simply being a fantastic dunker.
Detroit Pistons
Offensive Player: Cade Cunningham (22.0 PPG, 7.3 APG, 42.0% FG, 32.4% 3-PT FG, -0.6 OWS)
Defensive Player: Ausar Thompson (8.4 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 0.7 DWS)
Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has quickly become the focal point of the Detroit Pistons’ offensive aspirations. His smooth ball-handling, perimeter shooting, and ability to navigate through defenses mark him as a promising young talent. Even if the Detroit Pistons are a poor team this season, only holding a 2-22 record, Cunningham has been one of the few bright spots.
Ausar Thompson was not supposed to be the defensive stalwart from the perimeter, that was supposed to be his brother Amen Thompson. However, Ausar has been exceptional by posting solid defensive stats and proving to be an excellent all-around prospect. His defensive contributions, coupled with his energy on the court, make Thompson a key component of the Pistons’ rebuilding efforts on both ends of the floor.
Golden State Warriors
Offensive Player: Stephen Curry (29.1 PPG, 4.4 APG, 46.8% FG, 42.2% 3-PT FG, 2.0 OWS)
Defensive Player: Draymond Green (5.5 RPG, 0.4 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 0.4 DWS)
Stephen Curry, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and three-point maestro, remains the heartbeat of the Golden State Warriors’ offensive juggernaut. Curry’s impact extends beyond statistics; his gravity on the court opens up space for teammates, and his leadership sets the tone for the Warriors’ offensive style. Even as he approaches 36 years old, Curry is unstoppable when his shot is falling and that has not changed this season when looking at his offensive numbers.
The defensive savant and linchpin of the Warriors’ famed “Death Lineup,” Draymond Green continues to be the defensive anchor for Golden State. Sure, his behavior on the court leading to multiple ejections is not a good look, but he can still defend far more consistently than anyone else on the team and that includes Andrew Wiggins among others.
Houston Rockets
Offensive Player: Alperen Sengun (20.0 PPG, 5.4 APG, 53.3% FG, 30.8% 3-PT FG, 1.0 OWS)
Defensive Player: Dillon Brooks (3.5 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 0.0 BPG, 1.0 DWS)
Youngster Alperen Sengun, the young and promising center for the Houston Rockets, has quickly caught the attention of fans and analysts with his offensive skill set. So far this season, Sengun showcased a diverse offensive game, displaying a soft touch around the rim, passing ability, and a developing three-point shot. The Turkish star has become the focal point of the Rockets and his numbers prove that as the most talented big man in Houston since Yao Ming.
Dillon Brooks gets criticized a ton for his loud mouth but he has been on better behavior this season and is continuing to be an elite defensive player following his All-NBA Defensive selection last year. The swingman knows how to contest shooters well and is not afraid of any challenge that comes his way, as he has been one of the reasons the culture in Houston is changing.
Indiana Pacers
Offensive Player: Tyrese Haliburton (26.1 PPG, 12.0 APG, 52.0% FG, 43.9% 3-PT FG, 3.6 OWS)
Defensive Player: Myles Turner (8.0 RPG, 0.6 SPG, 2.1 BPG, 0.5 DWS)
Arguably the best playmaker in the world, Tyrese Haliburton has quickly become a focal point of the team’s offensive schemes and is the leading player in terms of offensive win shares. A superstar who is posting a double-double with points and assists, Haliburton has completely dominated the court with the ball in his hands and is doing it even while posting only 2.5 turnovers per game.
Myles Turner, the shot-blocking extraordinaire, continues to be a defensive force for the Indiana Pacers. Posting 2.1 blocks per game as a two-time blocks champion, Turner continues to be a valuable starting center. As one of the premier rim protectors in the league, Turner’s defensive excellence remains a crucial component of the Pacers’ aspirations for success in a competitive Eastern Conference as they continue to be one of the most exciting teams to follow.
Los Angeles Clippers
Offensive Player: Kawhi Leonard (23.3 PPG, 3.6 APG, 50.3% FG, 42.1% 3-PT FG, 2.0 OWS)
Defensive Player: Kawhi Leonard (5.8 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 1.2 DWS)
Kawhi Leonard, the enigmatic and stoic force on the court, embodies the rare blend of offensive brilliance and defensive tenacity for the Los Angeles Clippers. On the offensive end, Leonard is a scoring maestro, known for his mid-range precision, three-point shooting, and ability to finish at the rim. His scoring averages and efficiency underscore his ability to take over games and lead his team on the offensive end as he leads the team in scoring.
Simultaneously, Leonard’s defensive prowess is legendary. Known for his massive hands, quick reflexes, and basketball IQ, Leonard is a perennial candidate for NBA All-Defensive Team honors. His on-ball defense, ability to generate steals, and lockdown performances against some of the league’s best offensive players make him a defensive force to be reckoned with even as he approaches 33 years old.
Los Angeles Lakers
Offensive Player: LeBron James (25.3 PPG, 6.7 APG, 55.1% FG, 40.5% 3-PT FG, 1.6 OWS)
Defensive Player: Anthony Davis (12.5 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 2.6 BPG, 1.8 DWS)
Still one of the best players in the world, LeBron James continues to be the offensive engine for the Los Angeles Lakers. Even as he nears 39 years old, his basketball IQ, passing ability, and scoring efficiency make him a triple threat on the offensive end. Whether driving to the basket with unparalleled athleticism or delivering pinpoint passes to teammates, LeBron’s impact on the Lakers’ offense extends far beyond traditional statistics and that won’t change as long as The King suits up to play basketball.
The Lakers’ second-best player, Anthony Davis stands as the defensive linchpin for the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis’s impact on the Lakers’ defense is pivotal, providing a foundation for the team’s success. As the last line of defense, his shot-blocking ability alters opponents’ shots and instills a defensive mindset that is crucial for the Lakers’ pursuit of NBA glory. So far this season, the big man is one of the leaders in the Defensive Player of the Year race.
Memphis Grizzlies
Offensive Player: Desmond Bane (24.8 PPG, 46.9% FG, 38.2% 3-PT FG, 0.9 OWS)
Defensive Player: Jaren Jackson Jr. (5.8 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 1.8 BPG, 1.0 DWS)
In the absence of Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, the emerging shooting guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, has established himself as a key offensive weapon for the team. His three-point shooting prowess, alongside a well-rounded offensive game, makes him a reliable scoring option for the Grizzlies as he is having a breakout season as he looks to make his first All-Star Team. As soon as Morant returns to the court, Bane will likely revert to being a second option, however.
Jaren Jackson Jr., the versatile power forward-center, serves as the defensive anchor for the Memphis Grizzlies. His defensive versatility allows him to guard multiple positions, and his presence in the paint deters opponents from attacking the rim. Beyond shot-blocking, Jackson’s ability to contest shots and create turnovers contributes significantly to the Grizzlies’ defensive schemes. He must improve his rebounding because that seems to be a weakness in the game of the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year winner.
Miami Heat
Offensive Player: Jimmy Butler (21.6 PPG, 46.5% FG, 40.4% 3-PT FG, 1.9 OWS)
Defensive Player: Bam Adebayo (9.9 RPG, 1.2 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 0.8 DWS)
Jimmy Butler, the charismatic and relentless leader of the Miami Heat, is the driving force behind the team’s offensive identity. Known for his clutch performances and ability to take over in crucial moments, Butler’s offensive impact goes beyond statistics. He has led Miami to two Finals appearances since 2020 and his offense seems to become consistent whenever he competes in the playoffs although his numbers this season have been great in terms of efficiency.
The athletic and versatile center for the Miami Heat, Bam Adebayo has become the linchpin of the team’s defense. His ability to guard multiple positions, protect the rim, and switch on defense adds a dynamic element to the Heat’s consistency. As a two-way force, Adebayo’s defensive contributions are instrumental in the Heat’s pursuit of success in a competitive Eastern Conference as he looks to win his first Defensive Player of the Year trophy.
Milwaukee Bucks
Offensive Player: Giannis Antetokounmpo (32.0 PPG, 5.0 APG, 62.3% FG, 22.5% 3-PT FG, 2.9 OWS)
Defensive Player: Giannis Antetokounmpo (10.8 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 1.1 DWS)
Giannis Antetokounmpo, the “Greek Freak,” stands as the undisputed leader on both ends of the court for the Milwaukee Bucks. His unique blend of size, athleticism, and ball-handling skills make him an unstoppable force when attacking the basket. Giannis’s ability to finish at the rim, coupled with an improving outside shot, solidifies him as the focal point of the Bucks’ offense. Beyond scoring, his playmaking skills create opportunities for teammates, adding another layer to the team’s offensive strategy.
Giannis’s defensive impact is equally awe-inspiring. A former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Giannis possesses the ability to guard multiple positions with his length and agility. His two-way excellence has been a cornerstone of the Bucks’ success, culminating in an NBA Championship in the 2021 season. As Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to dominate on both ends of the floor, the Milwaukee Bucks remain a formidable force in the league.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Offensive Player: Anthony Edwards (24.4 PPG, 4.8 APG, 45.2% FG, 37.8% 3-PT FG, 2.1 OWS)
Defensive Player: Rudy Gobert (12.2 RPG, 0.5 SPG, 2.5 BPG, 1.8 DWS)
Anthony Edwards, the explosive and high-flying shooting guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, has quickly emerged as a potent offensive force and a superstar player. His athleticism, scoring versatility, and ability to create highlight-reel plays make him a dynamic threat on the offensive end. Edwards’s confident scoring mentality, combined with his three-point shooting and slashing skills, contribute to the Timberwolves’ offensive identity as he becomes the franchise player.
Rudy Gobert, the towering and tenacious center is once again a perennial candidate for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, which would be his fourth if he were to win it again. Averaging over 2 blocks and 10 rebounds per game, his shot-blocking prowess, rim protection, and exceptional rebounding make him one of the most dominant defenders in the league. Gobert has been the leader for the number two-ranked defense in the NBA right now.
New Orleans Pelicans
Offensive Player: Brandon Ingram (23.6 PPG, 5.3 APG, 49.5% FG, 29.8% 3-PT FG, 0.9 OWS)
Defensive Player: Herbert Jones (4.5 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 1.2 BPG, 0.9 DWS)
As the best scorer on the team, Brandon Ingram, the lanky and versatile forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, assumes the role of the team’s primary offensive catalyst. His smooth scoring ability, mid-range jumper, and improved three-point shooting make him a matchup nightmare for opponents. Ingram’s offensive versatility extends to his playmaking, creating opportunities for teammates and elevating the Pelicans’ offensive flow even with Zion Williamson by his side.
A promising player, Herbert Jones has quickly made a name for himself on the defensive end. Known for his athleticism, active hands, and commitment to on-ball defense, Jones has emerged as a valuable asset for the Pelicans and the most consistent defender on the team at only 25 years old.
New York Knicks
Offensive Player: Julius Randle (22.4 PPG, 5.4 APG, 45.3% FG, 31.0% 3-PT FG, 0.9 OWS)
Defensive Player: Mitchell Robinson (10.3 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 1.0 DWS)
Julius Randle, the dynamic power forward for the New York Knicks, is the leader of the team’s offense although Jalen Brunson comes very close. Randle’s leadership and ability to take on the role of the primary scorer highlight his importance to the team, and his performances often dictate the success of the Knicks on the offensive end a little bit more than Brunson. At 6’9”, Randle also finds it easier to score the ball.
Mitchell Robinson, the athletic center for the New York Knicks, serves as the defensive anchor for the team even if his offensive game lags behind a little bit. His ability to alter opponents’ shots, rebound effectively, and provide a presence in the paint contributes significantly to the Knicks’ defense as the Knicks rank sixth in defense.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Offensive Player: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (30.4 PPG, 6.2 APG, 55.0% FG, 34.3% 3-PT FG, 3.2 OWS)
Defensive Player: Chet Holmgren (7.8 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 2.4 BPG, 1.3 DWS)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the dynamic guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, has swiftly become the focal point of the team’s offense. His crafty ball-handling, ability to finish at the rim, and developing three-point shot make him a versatile offensive threat. Gilgeous-Alexander’s playmaking skills and on-court leadership have elevated him to the role of the Thunder’s primary offensive catalyst after he made the All-NBA First Team last season.
Meanwhile, Chet Holmgren is showing why he was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. His quickness off the bounce and ability to swat shots around the rim has made him an exceptional modern center, although this is still his rookie campaign. In a modern NBA where big men have to score, Holmgren is doing both at a high level.
Orlando Magic
Offensive Player: Paolo Banchero (20.7 PPG, 4.5 APG, 49.0% FG, 38.9% 3-PT FG, 0.4 OWS)
Defensive Player: Jonathan Isaac (4.4 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 1.2 BPG, 0.6 DWS)
Paolo Banchero has continued his scoring consistency for the Orlando Magic a year after winning Rookie of the Year. The forward not only has the confidence to shoot the ball anytime but also the skill and tenacity to shoulder the burden. Amazingly, Banchero is one of the main reasons the Magic are in a playoff position this season.
Jonathan Isaac stands out as the team’s defensive anchor even if he has played only 11 games over the last three seasons. In 16 appearances so far, Isaac is showing his versatility because he can literally defend four positions at a high level as he gets comfortable following his major injuries.
Philadelphia 76ers
Offensive Player: Joel Embiid (33.8 PPG, 6.4 APG, 52.3% FG, 32.8% 3-PT FG, 3.2 OWS)
Defensive Player: Joel Embiid (11.5 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 1.8 BPG, 1.1 DWS)
Joel Embiid, the towering center for the Philadelphia 76ers, stands as a two-way force, dominating on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Embiid’s inside scoring, finesse in the post, and ability to stretch the floor with a reliable three-point shot make him one of the most unstoppable offensive big men in the league. Embiid’s scoring prowess is complemented by his playmaking ability, as he poses a constant threat to opposing defenses.
On the defensive end, Embiid’s impact is equally profound. Known for his shot-blocking ability, rim protection, and rebounding, Embiid is a defensive juggernaut in the paint. His defensive presence alters opponents’ shots and creates fast-break opportunities for the 76ers. The center will likely be a top-three MVP candidate for the entire season due to his two-way dominance.
Phoenix Suns
Offensive Player: Kevin Durant (30.8 PPG, 5.6 APG, 52.0% FG, 48.4% 3-PT FG, 2.1 OWS)
Defensive Player: Josh Okogie (3.4 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 0.5 DWS)
Kevin Durant is having an incredible season on the offensive side of the floor, posting 30.8 points per game on nearly 50-40-90 shooting splits as his free-throw percentage sits at 88.7%. It would be amazing to see Durant capture a 50-40-90 shooting season with the likes of Devin Booker and Bradley Beal by his side because the fourth-time scoring champion continues to strengthen his legacy as one of the best scores ever.
Josh Okogie is an energizer bunny when he is on the court and competes harder than any other player on the Suns roster in that sense. He hustles for loose balls, scrambles to contest shots, and has the athleticism to defend multiple positions. Even if his numbers don’t scream defense, his impact certainly does.
Portland Trail Blazers
Offensive Player: Jerami Grant (22.1 PPG, 2.2 APG, 43.7% FG, 41.2% 3-PT FG, 0.4 OWS)
Defensive Player: Matisse Thybulle (1.9 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 0.7 DWS)
With Damian Lillard gone, Jerami Grant has been an offensive leader over the Portland Trail Blazers as he leads the team in scoring. An experienced forward with elite slashing ability and a consistent jumper, Grant is having another great season. It might be unfair for a win-now player like Grant to be on a rebuilding team but his scoring has made the Trail Blazers somewhat competitive.
Meanwhile, Matisse Thybulle is proving that he has to be in the conversation for one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. Even if his game is devoid of consistent offense, Thybulle has the size, athleticism, and willingness to be a capable defender against any opponent. His numbers have been very solid on the defensive end and he has been a bright spot for the otherwise tanking Trail Blazers.
Sacramento Kings
Offensive Player: De’Aaron Fox (29.5 PPG, 6.4 APG, 46.9% FG, 38.1% 3-PT FG, 1.3 OWS)
Defensive Player: Keegan Murray (5.7 RPG, 1.2 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 0.6 DWS)
De’Aaron Fox, the dynamic point guard for the Sacramento Kings, serves as the engine of the team’s offense. Fox led the Kings to the first-ranked offense last season as his lightning-fast speed, crafty ball-handling, and ability to finish at the rim make him a constant threat in transition. He is having an exceptional season offensively and looks to be primed for an All-NBA Team selection.
Keegan Murray has proven to be a valuable prospect because he has the size to be an excellent defender in the modern NBA. He can handle guards and forwards and is improving as a consistent defensive player. At only 23 years old, Murray is proving to be a valuable player for the Kings franchise at this point.
San Antonio Spurs
Offensive Player: Victor Wembanyama (19.3 PPG, 2.5 APG, 43.7% FG, 27.4% 3-PT FG, -1.0 OWS)
Defensive Player: Victor Wembanyama (10.7 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 3.0 BPG, 1.1 DWS)
Victor Wembanyama is the favorite for the Rookie of the Year award this season and is having an excellent season on both ends of the floor. At 7’4”, Wembanyama has the size to score easily but his ball-handling, shooting, and basketball IQ make him look unstoppable at times. He is having a great individual rookie campaign offensively, but his defense looks to be even better.
Wembanyama is having a profound impact when it comes to protecting the rim because his explosiveness complements his height tremendously well. The Frenchman has an innate ability to read what offensive players are doing and react quickly, and we are seeing the beginning of a premier NBA superstar.
Toronto Raptors
Offensive Player: Pascal Siakam (21.2 PPG, 5.0 APG, 50.4% FG, 25.3% 3-PT FG, 1.1 OWS)
Defensive Player: OG Anunoby (4.4 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 0.6 DWS)
Pascal Siakam has been tasked with leading the team’s offensive charge since the 2019 season. His unique combination of size, athleticism, and skill allows him to score in various ways, whether driving to the basket, hitting mid-range jumpers, or stretching the floor with three-pointers. Siakam’s playmaking abilities also make him a valuable asset in the Raptors’ offensive schemes, as he can create opportunities for himself and his teammates.
OG Anunoby, the athletic forward for the Toronto Raptors, is the best defender on the team on the other side of the court. His combination of length, quickness, and basketball IQ allows him to take on the challenge of defending elite perimeter players. As the Raptors look to compete in the Eastern Conference, Anunoby’s defensive excellence adds a valuable layer to their aspirations for success as he already has an All-NBA Defensive Team selection on his resume.
Utah Jazz
Offensive Player: Lauri Markkanen (23.7 PPG, 1.0 APG, 48.7% FG, 39.0% 3-PT FG, 1.4 OWS)
Defensive Player: Walker Kessler (8.2 RPG, 0.4 SPG, 2.5 BPG, 0.4 DWS)
Lauri Markkanen brings a unique offensive skill set to the Utah Jazz. With a demonstrated ability to stretch the floor, Markkanen’s three-point shooting percentage and scoring average make him a valuable asset. After making his first All-Star Team last season, Markkanen looks on track to make another one due to his offense.
Walker Kessler’s statistical contributions in rebounds, steals, and blocks showcase a promising defensive presence. Kessler’s shot-blocking ability and rebounding prowess make him a rim protector and defensive anchor for the Jazz. As a young player (22 years old), Kessler’s defensive development could play a crucial role in the Jazz’s overall defensive strategy.
Washington Wizards
Offensive Player: Kyle Kuzma (23.0 PPG, 4.4 APG, 47.7% FG, 36.6% 3-PT FG, 0.3 OWS)
Defensive Player: Daniel Gafford (7.2 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 2.1 BPG, 0.3 DWS)
Kyle Kuzma assumes a significant role as a primary offensive contributor. Known for his scoring versatility and ability to stretch the floor, Kuzma’s offensive game includes scoring from beyond the arc and creating opportunities in mid-range. Thrust into this role following his move from the Los Angeles Lakers following the 2021 season, Kuzma has been a steady offensive force and is quite impressive in that sense.
Daniel Gafford, the athletic center for the Washington Wizards, stands out as a defensive force for the team. Gafford’s shot-blocking prowess and rim protection make him a valuable asset in deterring opponents from attacking the basket. At only 25 years old, Gafford competes hard on defense and seems to enjoy that part of the game more than playing offense.
