When you’ve been in the NBA for as long as LeBron James has, it’s only natural to break a few records along the way. When it comes to LeBron, the kind of records he breaks are usually all positive — but he also leads some unflattering categories as well. Heading into Friday’s tournament game against the Suns, fans noticed that he was just one turnover away from reaching the 5,000 mark for his career, which is the most in NBA history.

Of course, LeBron has been the all-time turnover leader for years now, but this is the first time that anyone has come close to reaching 5,000. While it’s hardly a thing to be proud of, the milestone isn’t really an indictment on LeBron’s game. With over 1,400 games under his belt, most of which as the primary ball handler for his team, it makes total sense that LeBron has amassed 5,000 turnovers in his career. He’s played the game for so long at this point, that pretty much all of his stat totals are going to rank near the top of league history.

NBA Fans React To Turnover Record

Most NBA fans understand why LeBron has 5,00 turnovers to his name, but it didn’t stop the critics and trolls from having their fun online. In the comments section for posts on X, fans laid into the King for his latest NBA “achievement.”

As one X user noted, LeBron’s longevity has also played a role in inflating his all-time points total, which he topped last season when he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Waiting for someone to say “well he’s played longer than anyone else” Lmaooo.. they probably thought it and was about to type it and realized this is a trap for their goat argument being based on he’s scored more than anyone else

In the end, it can be easy to look at LeBron’s turnover numbers and see it as a bad thing but when you’ve played at his level for as long as he has, it’s a given that the mistakes will rack up. The important thing for James is that his assists numbers far outweigh the turnovers. To date, James has totaled 10,463 dimes in his career.

LeBron’s Longevity Is Unprecedented

LeBron can put up 20 and 10 in his sleep, but the secret to his ridiculous resume revolves around the millions he pours into his preserving his body. Known to go all-out on offseason training and conditioning, LeBron has gone to great lengths to ensure he’s at the top of his game. While other careers have risen and fallen around him, LeBron continues to dominate with a level of longevity we’ve never seen before.

Even now, in his 21st season, LeBron is playing like an All-Star with averages of 24.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game on 55.9% shooting.  With Anthony Davis and several other teammates in and out of the lineup, James is racking up more minutes than expected at 34.8 per game this season. And yet, somehow, he keeps on going like it’s nothing. With 20 years in the books already, it’s no surprise that LeBron has reached the top of so many record books already but he’s not even done yet. If he plays for one, two, or even three more seasons, he will only add even more to his already impressive career totals.
