Despite being 2-5 on the season, young guard Jordan Poole is surprisingly optimistic about his future with the Washington Wizards. In a recent interview, the former Warriors champion explained the changes he’s experienced moving to D.C. this year and how having his own team has opened up a whole new world of opportunities.

“Obviously, I wanted to be in a position to have my own team, and then if it did come, how would I go about that?” Poole told Yahoo Sports. “Luckily, I’m able to do that so young, after learning from some of the best. It’s cool. It’s a smooth transition. We’re building everything from scratch, essentially. Building up a new foundation. Everything in Golden State was already established, so we kinda had to fit into the mold that they have there.”

It’s not always greener on the other side and most fans would agree that Poole was in a better situation with the Dubs. But from Jordan’s view, he already won a ring in 2022 and he doesn’t owe a thing to his former team. The truth is, after his disastrous falling out with Draymond Green, he had no choice but to leave the franchise in the wake of their epic playoff collapse last season.

What Happened In Golden State?

The exact details of Poole’s departure are still a mystery to the community, but we can piece together enough pieces to paint a decent picture of what happened. After their tile run in 2022, the Warriors entered the following seasons with title expectations… which were quickly dashed when they opened the season winless on the road.

The root of the problems traced back to training camp when Draymond Green laid out Jordan Poole after a heated confrontation. The video leaked online and the Warriors had to come out with a statement to address the whole ordeal. While the Dubs tried to play it off like nothing at the time, things were never the same for Golden State after that, and there was a very clear disruption in the team chemistry. The Warriors look much better after the breakup, and Poole can finally play on his own terms after practically begging to be set free from the Warriors.

A Rude Awakening For Poole

It’s tough for any player to go from a winning situation to being on one of the worst teams in the league. But for Poole, he has no choice but to embrace his new surroundings after the trade from Golden State this past summer. After receiving so much heat for his performance with the Warriors, Poole has an uphill climb to recover his value in the NBA. Unfortunately, while Poole himself is averaging a solid 17.4 points per game, the Wizards have been a complete mess to start the season.

At 2-5 and ranked near the bottom for defensive efficiency, the Wizards are on track for another lottery season. Going forward, it remains to be seen what moves the Wizards can pull off but this could be their reality for a while unless some serious changes are made to the roster. At this point, for Poole, there’s really nothing left for him to do but play with the aim of proving his haters wrong.
