  • Rich Paul thinks Stephen Curry wouldn’t receive the same criticism as LeBron James for the bubble championship
  • LeBron James was the 2020 Finals MVP
  • The bubble was played in Disney World without fans

There is no doubt that the 2019-20 season was out of the ordinary for the NBA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic beginning during the season, the league went on hiatus and then restarted at Walt Disney World in Florida. The Los Angeles Lakers ended up winning the 2020 championship that year.

In recent memory, we have seen a lot of people criticize LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers after their championship win, with some suggesting that their ring should come with an “asterisk” due to the lack of fans present. Some of that criticism is definitely unfounded, as all teams were put in the same exact environment and the conditions were as fair as they possibly could be. Recently, agent Rich Paul suggested that if Stephen Curry were to win the bubble championship like LeBron James, he wouldn’t be criticized as much.

“If Steph wins in the bubble, do they discredit it? No, they don’t.” (48:41)

It is obviously impossible to know how the world would have reacted if Stephen Curry won the 2020 championship. However, it is fair to say that among certain fanbases, it is almost popular to hate LeBron James. Part of the reason that people discredit the championship is definitely because LeBron James was the leading superstar on that team.

During the 2019-20 playoffs, LeBron James averaged 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game. There’s no doubt that he had a spectacular playoff run, and he fully deserved the 2020 Finals MVP.

Rich Paul Believes That LeBron James Is The GOAT Over Michael Jordan

There is no doubt that the majority of people believe that Michael Jordan is the GOAT of basketball. However, there are a lot of people who have suggested that Michael Jordan is the superior player. Recently, Rich Paul broke down why Rich Paul is the GOAT over Michael Jordan.

“LeBron is the first player to have to deal with a 24/7, 365 news cycle of sports and opinions from those that’s not even capable or carry the expertise to give a valid opinion… I just think LeBron’s antlers is in platinum and Michael Jordan’s may be in gold. Why? Because he had to be compared to Mike. Who did Mike have to be compared to?”

LeBron James certainly has a GOAT case due to his production and longevity. Though he still has to convince a lot of people that he is deserving of that title, there are plenty of people who already believe in him.

Toni Kukoc Believes LeBron James Shouldn’t Be Compared To Michael Jordan

Though comparisons are clearly part of basketball debate, it is definitely hard to compare players across eras. That is the reason Toni Kukoc believes Michael Jordan and LeBron James cannot be compared, with the former Bulls player noting that they “never played against each other”.

Eventually, there might be a player who ends up surpassing all the other greats in the game and becoming the undoubted GOAT. However, that might end up being a long while away, and we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
