  • JJ Redick shared his two cents on Jaylen Brown’s extension with the Boston Celtics
  • Brown’s lucrative contract is the richest in NBA history
  • Redick believed Brown was not a Top-10 category player

JJ Redick had his take on Jaylen Brown inking his whopping deal with Boston Celtics earlier this offseason.

Speaking on his podcast, the former sharpshooter believed that while Brown signed the extension, he wasn’t in the category of a top five or a top 10 player.

“I wasn’t shocked that Jaylen Brown signed a super-max extension. He qualified for it, he’s all NBA this season, he’s a player who’s done a lot in his career, and he’s entering his prime. But I want to go through this real quick because I saw some comments yesterday. Jaylen Brown is a fantastic player, he’s not a top-five player, right, he’s not a top-10 player, so I think for the casual fan, they’re just like, ‘Oh, that’s insane. Jaylen Brown’s not worth it, Jaylen’s Brown’s not worth more than so-and-so, I can’t believe Jaylen Brown signed for that’. Does Jaylen Brown deserve more to get more money than Jokic or Giannis or Steph, or LeBron, the answer is no.”

He further added:

“Did the Celtics have to re-sign him or sign this extension to the supermax? The answer to that is yes, they’re trying to win a championship.”

This past season with the Celtics, Brown averaged 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.5 APG. He is clearly a good player and a consistent one at that. Only time will tell if he can indeed prove JJ wrong in the coming season.

The Boston Celtics Are Undoubtedly One Of The Best Teams In The NBA Right Now

At the time of writing, it is fair to say that the Celtics are one of the best teams in the league. They added an elite center in Kristaps Porzingis, and now have the star power to compete with any team in the Eastern Conference.

Brown’s performance will be a crucial part of whether Boston can contend to win a title in the next season. Hopefully, Brown rises up to the challenge in tandem with Jayson Tatum, and he can definitely be a difference-maker for the Celtics.
