When the Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA championship, there’s no doubt that Jordan Poole played a huge role in their success. His shot creation and scoring were key for the team off the bench, and the team subsequently rewarded him with a four-year, $128 million contract.
Even though he had a great year during the 2021-22 season, we have seen Jordan Poole struggle with his efficiency and defense this past year, especially during the playoffs. Despite that, Jordan Poole is one of their more valuable trade chips, and it seems as though the team has decided to cash in, trading him to the Washington Wizards for veteran point guard Chris Paul.
“Warriors are sending Jordan Poole, a protected first-round pick in 2030 and a second-rounder in 2027 to the Wizards for Chris Paul, league sources said.”

From the Washington Wizards’ perspective, this is a fantastic deal. They are getting a young guard who is under contract for a long time and still has untapped potential. The picks are also a solid sweetener in the deal. Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors will get a quality veteran guard, who will likely fit well in the sixth-man role for the team.
This past season, Jordan Poole averaged 20.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 4.5 APG for the Golden State Warriors while shooting 43.0% from the field and 33.6% from 3PT range. It’ll be interesting to see how he does on the Wizards, and as of right now, it looks as though he’ll be the No. 1 scoring option on the team.
