The Golden State Warriors have had championship expectations going into the season, but unfortunately, they fell short. They finished as the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference and were eliminated in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers.
It seems as though the team understands that changes must be made. A recent report from Jonathan Givony of ESPN reveals that the team is “exploring the option” of getting a high draft pick this season by moving forward Jonathan Kuminga.
“Sources tell ESPN the Warriors are also exploring the option of acquiring a high draft pick in exchange for a young prospect such as Jonathan Kuminga.”
A high draft pick that is in the lottery would likely allow the Golden State Warriors to draft a better-fitting player than Jonathan Kuminga, who is a better fit within their system. Jonathan Kuminga also wants a bigger role overall, and perhaps he could get it on another franchise.
This season, Jonathan Kuminga put up 9.9 PPG, 3.4 RPG, and 1.9 APG for the Golden State Warriors while shooting 37.0% from 3PT range. He is an elite defender and has clearly improved his 3PT shooting, and we’ll see where he ends up after the draft.
Draymond Green Believes Jonathan Kumminga Can Be A Perennial All-Star
There is no doubt that Jonathan Kuminga has a lot of potential due to his physical tools and slashing ability. In fact, Warriors forward Draymond Green claimed that he can be “a perennial All-Star.”
“He’s going to be really good,” Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green told Andscape. “He can be a perennial All-Star in this league. That’s up to him and the work he puts in. But he has the skills, the tools, he can see the floor, he has the opportunity if he puts the work in to be a perennial All-Star.”
Of course, Jonathan Kuminga also needs to go to a team that will give him the opportunity, playing time, and touches to reach the ceiling that Draymond Green describes. Hopefully, that can happen on the Golden State Warriors, but if not, perhaps Jonathan Kuminga will be in such a situation in the future after getting traded.
