The Denver Nuggets are currently playing in the 2023 NBA Finals and are just three wins away from winning their first championship in franchise history.

The Nuggets reached the biggest stage in the league in great fashion as they swept the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Speaking of which, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone took a shot at the Lakers while looking at a Polaroid picture following the series win.

“Oh, I wondered where this went,” Malone said. “This is a collector’s item. I look pretty happy there. What happened that night? Do you remember? Something about a broom and a sweep? I don’t know.”

Winning a series 4-0 is always a great achievement, and it’s not a crime to celebrate the win. But it feels like Michael Malone is deliberately trying to make a big deal out of it.

The Nuggets are still in the NBA Finals, with the series tied at 1-1. So, Malone is definitely getting cocky and is running the risk of getting absolutely blasted by the internet if the Nuggets do not win a ring this season.

Michael Malone On Potential Narratives About The Los Angeles Lakers

The Denver Nuggets aren’t a historically iconic franchise. Evidently, the level of media coverage that they receive fades in comparison to what the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers or the Boston Celtics get.

During the Western Conference Finals, the Nuggets should have become the talk of the town after sweeping the Lakers. But James’ potential retirement took the attention away from them.

Prior to the start of the 2023 NBA Finals, Michael Malone addressed the narratives that could form around the Lakers despite their Conference Finals exit.

“If anybody is still talking about the Lakers in the NBA Finals, that’s on them. They’ve gone fishing. We’re still playing.”

To be honest, Malone’s anger is understandable. But at the same time, there are instances when it feels like he’s unnecessarily talking about the Lakers.
