Michael Malone made a lot of noise during the 2023 Western Conference Finals, as he wasn’t happy with the media putting all the focus on the Los Angeles Lakers while the Denver Nuggets, and Nikola Jokic, dominated the series.

Even after his team swept the Lakers, Malone kept talking about the Purple and Gold, throwing shade at them and the people who keep bringing them up in conversations.

“If anybody is still talking about the Lakers in the NBA Finals, that’s on them. They’ve gone fishing. We’re still playing.”

The Lakers are definitely the most famous franchise in the NBA and one of the most important in the world of sports, and it’s easy to see why some people would try to push their narrative. Still, the Nuggets fought against that and won, sending the Lakers home in four games behind a terrific performance from Nikola Jokic.

One reporter has explained why the Nuggets don’t get as much attention as other teams in the league, which is odd considering that every other league has small-market teams that do get attention from the media and, sometimes, even more than the classic winners.

The NBA is different when it comes to that coverage, but it’s clear that the Nuggets made it to the Finals with a big win over the Lakers, taking them out and dominating them in all four games.

The Denver Nuggets Are Still Waiting For A Rival In The Finals

Meanwhile, the Nuggets keep waiting for their next rival, which will be either the Miami Heat or the Boston Celtics. Right now, the Heat have a 3-2 lead, but the Celtics are threatening to become the first team in NBA history to overcome a 0-3 deficit this year.

Game 6 of this series is scheduled for Saturday night, and if the Heat wins, they can go to the Finals. Otherwise, Game 7 will take place on Monday with both teams going out to battle it out for the chance to face the Nuggets in the NBA Finals.
