There is no doubt that many consider Michael Jordan the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball. However, even the legend has some detractors, including some former teammates.

Recently, we saw Scottie Pippen call Michael Jordan a “horrible player,” noting that LeBron James will always be “the greatest statistical guy” when it comes to basketball. Pippen noted that before he came to join Jordan on the Bulls, Jordan was “horrible to play with.”

“LeBron James will be the greatest statistical guy to ever play the game of basketball. There’s no comparison to him… I’ve seen Michael Jordan play before I came to play with the Bulls… [Michael Jordan] was a horrible player. He was horrible to play with. He was all 1 on 1, he was shooting bad shots. ”

There’s no doubt that this is some huge criticism from Scottie Pippen towards his former teammate. On the one hand, it is true that Michael Jordan didn’t have much success with the Chicago Bulls when it came to the postseason prior to Scottie Pippen’s arrival. However, nobody wins alone, and Michael Jordan’s six championships speak for themselves.

Michael Jordan Always Had Respect For Scottie Pippen

Even though Scottie Pippen clearly feels a certain way about Michael Jordan, it is clear that Jordan always had respect for Pippen. In fact, after the Chicago Bulls won the 1996 championship, Jordan claimed that Pippen became “a little brother” to him.

“He’s one of the reasons I came back. If he leaves, I’m leaving again. I hope he’s around, and as much as I’ve admired Shawn Kemp’s ability, I’m just so happy they didn’t make that trade. If they made that trade, no telling if we would have been here and if I would have been here. A lot of people doubted Scottie Pippen for a long period of time, and he’s become like a little brother to me. … I’m very blessed to be a part of his team.”

There is no doubt that Scottie Pippen was a fantastic player in his own right, and he was one of the best two-way players in the 90s. In fact, some people even believed that he was the best player in the world when Michael Jordan took two years off to play baseball. Hopefully, we see Scottie Pippen stop the criticism of Michael Jordan at some point in the future, but it doesn’t look like it’ll happen anytime soon.
