LeBron James Unlikely To Team Up With Kyrie Irving And Luka Doncic On The Mavericks

Despite the buzz the development caused, an NBA analyst believed the trio forming a superteam in Dallas was unlikely.

After news of LeBron James’ speculated move to the Dallas Mavericks did the rounds on social media earlier, an NBA analyst quashed the possibility as unlikely.

“Given the hurdles that Dallas would have to clear in order to make this happen, it seems unlikely for now that LeBron ends up on the Mavericks with Irving and Doncic,” CBS Sports’ Jasmyn Wimbish wrote.

“But with Irving hitting the open market this summer as a free agent, the possibility of them playing together again could be in the cards, though them teaming up in Dallas would be far more difficult to pull off,” the analyst further added.

Earlier, it was reported that Kyrie Irving had reportedly reached out to James to see if there was a chance of him playing in Dallas. “Sources: Kyrie Irving has reached out to Lakers star LeBron James in an attempt to see if James would come to Dallas. Irving is a free agent this offseason,” tweeted The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

To add, the Lakers have tradeable assets, something the Mavs don’t. And that makes the chances of his trade going through minimal. But this is the NBA, and stranger things have happened.

Can LeBron James And Kyrie Irving Play Together This Season?

Amid all the buzz, the easiest way perhaps for James and Irving to play together this season is with the latter coming to LA. The Athletic’s Jovan Buha also provided the more achievable route.

The cleanest path to James and Irving playing together is in Los Angeles, either by Irving taking a discount to sign with the Lakers in free agency or by Dallas sending him there in a sign-and-trade. James to Dallas is possible, but incredibly improbable.

The Mavericks are also reportedly not interested in a sign-and-trade, and that makes it clear that the only way Irving joins the Lakers is if they just sign him as a free agent. But that does come at a cost.
