Dallas Mavericks Have No Intention Of Helping Kyrie Irving In A Potential Sign-And-Trade

The Dallas Mavericks want to keep Kyrie Irving at all costs, and if they can re-sign him, they won't help him get to a different team via sign-and-trade.

Dallas Mavericks Have No Intention Of Helping Kyrie Irving In A Potential Sign-And-Trade

The Dallas Mavericks are keen on keeping Kyrie Irving beyond this season, and they have made up their minds about the prospect of Irving trying to go to a different team with their assistance.

The Mavs are not willing to help Kyrie go to a different organization via sign-and-trade, which can be a big option for him this offseason. Just like the Brooklyn Nets in March, the Mavericks aren’t interested in helping the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Unless the Lakers somehow make Austin Reaves available in a return sign-and-trade or decide they’re willing to trade Anthony Davis — and they won’t — there’s really no reason for the Mavericks to assist Los Angeles if Irving chooses to sign there. Especially not if D’Angelo Russell is the consolation prize,” The Athletic‘s Tim Cato wrote.

“It requires tact, but the Mavericks should simply tell Irving upfront what contract they would like for him to re-sign, and while he certainly has the right to leave, they don’t plan to assist any other team in acquiring him. They have the most appealing offer.”

The Mavericks couldn’t make it to the postseason this season despite having Irving and Luka Doncic on the roster. The front office is ready to bounce back now and see how far they can get with a team that fits Irving and Doncic better.

Dallas has a good project in its hands, but they need to place the right pieces around its two stars to take it to the next level.

Dallas Mavericks Are Working To Retain Kyrie Irving And Build Around Luka Doncic

As of right now, everything they’re doing is with the prospect of keeping both Irving and Doncic. The Slovenian player will continue as the leader of the squad, and he’ll be the main focus for them.

According to Brian Windhorst, they have grand plans this offseason to keep the point guard and build around Doncic.

“The Dallas Mavericks have grand plans this offseason to make a major splash and try to keep Kyrie [Irving] and add to what’s going on around Luka Doncic,” Windhorst said. “The Mavericks are under some pressure to do something, and they have the No. 10 pick in the draft to use to facilitate it.”

On ESPN's "Get Up" show, Brian Windhorst spoke about the Dallas Mavericks' "grand plans" to keep Kyrie Irving and build around Luka Doncic.

The clock is ticking for the Mavericks, as they are urged to win with Irving and Doncic on the roster. The defensive side of the ball is still an issue for them, but Nico Harrison and the rest of the front office are ready to make a splash now.
