Zach LaVine is in a weird place in his career right now. At 28, he is in his prime, but despite being a two-time All-Star, he has yet to show he can truly be a superstar. On top of that, the Chicago Bulls are far from contenders at the moment.
Zach LaVine is under contract till the 2025-26 season, with a player option for one more year. His deal will see him get paid over $210 million in five years. But according to the latest reports, he will not see out this 5-year contract.
“There is quite a bit of skepticism throughout the league that the Bulls and LaVine are going to finish this five-year marriage that they entered,” HoopsHype reported. “This is coming from the outside, it’s not coming from the Bulls but there are just quite a bit of people that I talked to around the league who do not think this is a long-term marriage is going to last.”
The Chicago Bulls have players like DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Lonzo Ball, although Lonzo has been a non-factor due to injuries. They have some good players but have been unable to win a playoff series with this iteration of the team. There is interest from around the league when it comes to LaVine, and it seems possible that he might leave soon after all.
Portland Trail Blazers Could Consider A Move For Zach LaVine
In the last four NBA seasons, Zach LaVine has made two All-Star teams and averaged 25.5 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He is an excellent player, but he’s not the main man on the team. And as such, he has been linked with a franchise that is searching for a second star, the Portland Trail Blazers.
“After the Trail Blazers jumped from the fifth to third pick at Tuesday’s draft lottery, multiple outlets reported that Portland will explore the market for that pick in an attempt to land a big splash for Damian Lillard. Would the Bulls instead engage in talks for that pick, which unequivocally would necessitate the inclusion of LaVine or, alternatively, DeMar DeRozan?”
The Miami Heat are also a proposed trade partner for the Bulls in a deal involving LaVine. In any case, there will be suitors for him, and with the way things are going, it’s unlikely that Zach will be with the Bulls till the end of his contract in 2027.
