Steve Kerr called out the Golden State Warriors’ young players when discussing the reason behind the team’s struggles this season.

Speaking to Draymond Green on his podcast, “The huge three in the fourth quarter, and it’s like none of the guys on the Miami are sitting there saying, ‘I didn’t play, or they didn’t put in so and so… they’re all about winning.'”

He further added: “And you know this from our groups when you have that championship mentality… every guy is bought in, every guy is trying to win, nobody cares about any of that stuff, don’t go into the locker room saying, ‘we should have played more.’ It’s just about wanting to win.”

“And that’s the beauty of finding that magic when you have a championship team, is that everybody’s bought in, and it makes the decisions for the coach really simple. You just go with your gut and go with whoever’s playing well.”

The Warriors face the possibility of the end of their dynasty after their second-round exit this season. They were outclassed 4-2 by the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs, and there was a major change that rang in with GM Bob Myers stepping down from his role.

And Kerr is in the last year of his contract, as is Draymond Green, who could leave in free agency. On the other end, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are on the aging side of their careers.

This puts the focus on the young Warriors unit, who are far from promising. The team winning just 44 games this season serves as ample proof that their primary stars are the only ones still putting up the numbers.

Steve Kerr Believes The Warriors Weren’t A Championship Team After Losing To The Lakers

Kerr didn’t mince words after Golden State lost to the Lakers in the playoffs and, in one brutal phrase, called out the Warriors unit.

Speaking to the media after their loss to LA, “To be fair I think this team ultimately maxed out,” Kerr said. “We were barely in the playoff picture for most of the year… this is not a championship team.”

That said, he also added that the Warriors had it in them to make another title run: “I think it’s probably too raw right now for me to think about,” Kerr said after the game. “The one thing I will say is that Draymond, Klay, and Steph, our core guys, they’ve got plenty left to offer. There’s still plenty in the tank. I think they all had great seasons.”

But their young core and their performances leave a lot to be desired.
