After an embarrassing no-show in the NBA playoffs, the Memphis Grizzlies were already facing a very difficult summer that began with the departure of Dillon Brooks. But in the aftermath of Ja Morant’s latest IG Live scandal, nobody is sure how the Grizzlies should respond.
This weekend, the Grizzlies released a statement confirming that Ja was suspended from all team activities but Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that there is internal fear that the NBA could step in with a severe punishment for Ja that would likely involve a 25-game suspension or more.
“There’s concern around the Grizzlies that [the NBA] is gonna come down hard on Ja Morant and that this gonna be potentially a serious suspension… the punishment is gonna come from Adam Silver. The Grizzlies have already suspended him indefinitely. He’s suspended from all team activities right now and the rest will be up to the league. It’ll be Adam Silver, they’ll go through their own investigation. last time it took several days, about a week for this investigation. So I would expect a similar investigation. They’re gonna have to talk to Morant, they’re gonna have to talk to the people around him and really get a sense for this situation.”

We should hear the NBA’s ruling on this by the end of this week, but it could take longer depending on how much information the NBA is looking for. But if you’re Ja, and you got caught with a gun just months after being suspended for flashing one, you can’t expect Silver to take a light approach.
Ja Morant Is Jeopardizing His NBA Career
No matter what happens with the NBA’s decision on this, Ja must understand that this behavior can only lead to devastation. If he wants to protect his brand and save his reputation, he needs to stop these shenanigans and make better choices about how he chooses to act when he’s on camera.
“You got 231 million dollars promised to you and you want to be a f***ing thug? It’s ok for you to have a gun,” said former NBA big man Kwame Brown. “You have a right, you have a 2nd Amendment right to have a gun, but what the f**k do you keep pulling it out menacing for? What is up with all this music you keep listening to? Is this music putting you in a trance, dumbass boy? Because that music is gonna cost you your f***ing career.”
As the world waits for Ja’s sentencing, let’s all hope he finds the help and guidance he needs to stop this behavior in its tracks.
If not, there is nothing stopping Ja from making the same mistakes and tainting his image as one of the league’s brightest young stars.
