Damian Lillard is currently on the outside looking in on the NBA playoffs, but he has had some great postseason moments throughout his career. Against the OKC Thunder in 2019, Lillard made, arguably, the greatest shot of his life in a step-back three from logo range that ended the Thunder’s season.
On his podcast, PG recently looked back on that moment and what he was thinking as it all went down.
“When that play is going on, I’m in front of him and I’m like watching the time behind him and it’s going down. At what point is he gonna make his move? I see him sizing me up but I’m like, ‘I know this n***** not about to shoot this sh*t from here. So that’s why I jumped before the jumps. Because it’s like two seconds left at this point, it’s gonna be a tough shot. He side-stepped it. That sh*t was like a Gatorade commercial. I was emotional at the time, I got killed in the media. Dame say ‘aw he hating.’ It was a bad shot, but to his respect a hell of a shooter. It does suck to be on the bad side of such an iconic moment.”

The Blazers made a run to the Conference Finals that year before running into the KD-led Warriors. Thanks to Dame’s incredible shooting, they were able to ride the wave of victory and build their best title attempt in the Dame era so far.
As for whether or not it was a bad shot, it probably would be for most players, but Lillard is a cut above the average NBA sharpshooter.
“My game-winner against OKC. Game 5. I have seen this so many times,” said Dame. “Every time I see this, one thing that never changes is I can’t believe how deep I was sometimes like I actually shot that. That actually was a bad shot.”
PG is over that whole ordeal now, but his run with the Clippers has done little to erase that blemish from his NBA resume.
Will Paul George Ever Win A Championship?
PG is on the Clippers now, and he’s had more success here than he has anywhere else. Sadly, he has not yet been able to become a champion with the Clippers, but there is still hope he can pull it off sometime before his career is over.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t run into Dame Lillard again, or he may start having flashbacks…
