Even though he’s back on the court and apparently ready to help the Memphis Grizzlies become a threat for the rest of the Western Conference, Ja Morant isn’t free of controversy.
One shoe salesman accused Morant of threatening him after a misunderstanding with the player’s mother, Jamie.
“Where’s the short guy with the dreads?” Morant kept shouting, according to Busby. Morant went into a part of the store where customers weren’t allowed, Busby said and looked through the window of the stock room. He said Morant then shouted, “I’m gonna wait until you get off work.”
“I thought, ‘Oh, he’s really trying to get me,’” Busby said. “Like, he’s trying to hurt me.’”
In a Washington Post report, Busby explained that Jamie first got angry after he helped two white women before her. This didn’t help Busby at all, and the woman started yelling at him, leading managers to send him into the back.
That’s when Ja showed up, asking for him. This isn’t helpful for the player, who was suspended for eight games due to this type of behavior. Morant admitted he asked for counseling and vowed to do better after he made his return to the Grizzlies. However, this story goes against everything the MIP said.
Police Accused Of Not Investigating Incidents Around Ja Morant
Moreover, Busby went after the police, saying that he hasn’t heard more about his case. Seeing how the police are dealing with certain matters when it comes to professional athletes, it’s odd to hear that the Memphis police are taking this approach with Ja.
“When a shoe salesman went to police to describe how he had cowered for nearly an hour in the back of a sneaker store as Morant threatened him, Memphis police did not list Morant as a suspect and recorded the name of his mother, Jamie Morant, as “Unknown” — shielding both from public scrutiny. The salesman, Givon Busby, whose report has not been previously disclosed, never heard from police again, he told The Post.”
Considering all the things Ja had to endure in recent months, it’s really weird seeing him involved in these situations. After being suspended by the Grizzlies for flashing a gun on Instagram Live, the player went quiet. He appears to be doing better now, but these reports aren’t helping his case.
Morant’s entourage was also accused of pointing alleged guns at Indiana Pacers staffers too. All these reports piled up until it was too much for the Grizzlies, and we hope this doesn’t get any bigger for Ja or his team. It’s about time he changes his behavior and leads with a good example.
