Charles Oakley shared his two cents on load management, one of the more heavily discussed topics this season.
“I don’t like load management,” Oakley retorted on KG Certified to Kevin Garnett. “I mean it’s a different time. You just have gotta make it 40-50 million dollars and I think that you should want to play.”

“The people are paying your salary, and the kids want to watch you play, especially when the East coast come to the West coast, and west to east, you gotta play these games, especially the teams that you want to play once home, once on the road…you gotta play these games.,” he further added.
“But I think they allowed them to the business and they got lean and so soft and the players get what they want. I feel sorry for the fans, and I am apologizing from the old school guys that ya’ll have to go through this.”
Oakley isn’t the first player to slam the concept. Previously, Utah Jazz legend John Stockton echoed a similar sentiment saying it was “getting beyond disrespectful”.
It should be noted that the idea has increasingly become a trend in the NBA. The New York Knicks legend is now another voice who adds to the list of imminent personalities against load management.
NBA Reportedly Inching Towards Adding Anti-Load Management Rule In The CBA
In recent developments, the league could be adding a new rule that rewards players for their consistency as far as games and attendance is concerned.
“The NBA and National Basketball Players Association are in advanced discussions on a new collective bargaining agreement,” reported The Athletic’s Shams Charania, “and the two sides are getting closer to agreeing on a stipulation that a player must play in a minimum number of regular season games to be eligible for major awards, sources tell The Athletic.”
While this does come as welcome news, especially with MVP becoming a hot topic of discussion, it remains to be seen how this pans out. Load management is clearly an important issue today, and only time will tell how the next few years look with the new rule.
