Former player Matt Barnes is well-known for having a long career in the NBA, and he notably won the 2017 championship with the Golden State Warriors. However, off the court, he has shown to be a person that is well aware of some of the issues currently plaguing the United States.

Recently, Matt Barnes revealed that he wants to run for political office by the time he is 50 years old. It would be interesting to see what policies he would enact and what sort of platform he would run on. We have seen him speak out against social justice issues in the past, and Barnes seems like someone who would fight to make things better for everyone.

“I gave myself a goal back in my 30s that by the time I turn 50, I wanted to run for some sort of office,” Barnes said. “Whether that be mayor or governor or whatever it may be. It would be refreshing. It’s not something people expect, but I know I can make a difference. I still got seven years before that time is up.”

We have seen former NBA players hold political office in the past. Pistons great Dave Bing was once the mayor of Detroit, and earlier, we even saw former New York All-Star Bill Bradley serve as a New Jersey senator. Matt Barnes could potentially become the next retired player to pursue a political career. It’ll be interesting to see what office he ends up running for and what he can do to improve the circumstances in the country.

Throughout his career, Matt Barnes has averaged 8.2 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 1.8 APG. He was a solid 3 and D player in his prime, and hopefully, we see him be successful in the next stage of his life, which seems to be politics.

Matt Barnes Has Had A Great Time As Part Of The Media

As of right now, Matt Barnes is an NBA analyst, and he co-hosts the All The Smoke podcast with Stephen Jackson. There is no doubt that their podcast is popular and successful, and Michael Jordan will reportedly be on there soon.

Though he is having a fantastic career as an NBA analyst, it is clear that Matt Barnes also wants to try his hand at politics. We will see how well he does, and it is clear that Barnes truly wants to change things for the better.
