Nikola Jokic Is The Only MVP Who Never Had A Teammate Selected To All-Star, All-NBA Or All-Defense

Nikola Jokic’s one of the NBA stars constantly making the headlines. Much has been said and written about him being the frontrunner to win his third MVP title, but it should be noted that he’s doing the bulk of the work without a star teammate.

In his eight seasons in the NBA, Jokic has been the sole anchor for the Nuggets and has been their driving force. Per an infographic from analyst Tom Haberstroh, the two-time MVP has had the least support from an All-Star, an All-NBA, or an All-Defense player in the league.

It’s worth noting that Jokic’s team members, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon have the potential and the All-Star caliber, but they have battled injuries and votes to not make the cut.

That said, Jokic and the Nuggets have fared brilliantly despite the absence of a second big name in their roster. At the time of writing, they dominate the Western Conference standings with a 46-20 record, only the second team to have the least losses after the Milwaukee Bucks in the East.

It’s quite clear that the Serbian has the innate quality to make others around him play better — a sentiment that JJ Redick echoed earlier when talking about Jokic’s MVP-level run this season.

Nikola Jokic Is Well On His Way To Earn His Third MVP

Jokic has the numbers and the quality to show for it and is on track to win his third MVP. The center has been averaging 24.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 10.0 assists this season and contributing consistently to his team’s wins.

That said, he would rather hold the championship silverware in his hands rather than bag another MVP. In the last two seasons, the Nuggets were one of the more formidable units in the regular season only to bow out early in the playoffs.

Jokic’s back-to-back MVP awards are a testimony of his skill and ability to contribute heavily to a team. He’s already been favored by the media members as one of the favorites to win for a third consecutive time sparking quite the debate on social media, and discussion forums.

The likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Luka Doncic are some of the other names listed as key contenders, but for now, Haberstroh makes a case for why Jokic rightfully deserves his third MVP, and it remains to be seen if he indeed wins in.
