Kevin Durant is a unicorn, the likes of which the NBA has not seen before. Despite being 7 feet tall, KD has one of the most efficient mid-range games in the league. His scoring ability is simply unfair, Durant can shoot over just about any defender. And in the coming NBA draft, there is a prospect that could perhaps come close to or even surpass the levels KD has reached.
Victor Wembanyama is a beast, he is not only a monster in the paint, but his shooting is ridiculous as well. He is perhaps the most hyped prospect to enter the league, so much so that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver asked teams not to tank intentionally to try and land him. There has been some conversation about how it might not be good for the league, but speaking to Nick Friedell, Kevin Durant gave his take on the matter.
“Nah, teams have been tanking for a minute. What, you’re going to force them to be competitive? I don’t see a problem with it, because each year there’s only a few teams that can win it anyway. So the rest of the league is trying to figure out where they are.
“And that’s pretty smart business if you’re a team and you know you’re not going to be a playoff team or play-in team, you might as well try to play for [the No. 1 pick]. You might as well try to get some of the guys who probably won’t get real rotation minutes if you have a good team, get them some reps and maybe those guys can change their lives as well.”
Durant is right about one thing, tanking is not a concept that is new to the league. And for the most part, most teams have stayed competitive this season with only 4 or 5 exceptions. And it’s hard to blame them when Wembanyama has such ridiculous aspects to his game.
Victor Wembanyama’s 3-Point Floater Has NBA Fans Going Crazy
Victor Wembanyama’s abilities are beyond belief. Not only can he protect the rim at an elite level, but he has also made 3-point floaters multiple times as well. This is even hard to fathom.
I don't think we're talking enough about how Victor Wembanyama is making floater 3-pointers a thing over in France. He's made multiple of these shots this season, and it breaks my brain every time he does it. Think Luka is the only other person I've seen try this more than once? pic.twitter.com/5T3MhWjit6

There have been many prospects to come into the league that may not have panned out, and there’s no guarantee that the Frenchman will either. But if he can stay healthy, his talent is enough to change the fortunes of any franchise, which means that there is simply too much incentive for poorer teams not to tank this season.
