Tyler Herro’s future in the NBA has finally been secured after the reigning Sixth Man of the Year signed a 4-year, $130 million contract extension with the Miami Heat. Herro has been an important team member since being drafted in 2019 and will spend at least 4 more seasons with the organization.

Fans have had varying responses to the situation, with many believing the price to be extremely high for a player like Herro who has minimal defensive impact and comes off the bench. Herro evidently does not care what people think of his new contract, as he flexed the money he’s going to be making on Twitter.

Herro averaged 20.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the regular season in 2021-22. He had an abysmal performance in the playoffs, averaging 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists through the 3 rounds the Heat played in. Tyler was in trade rumors for most of the summer and this extension proves that the Heat will stick with him at least for the entirety of the 2022-23 season.

Can Tyler Herro Take Another Leap In His Career?

Tyler Herro emerged onto the NBA radar by being a rookie that played well beyond his years in the Miami Heat’s run to the NBA Finals in 2020. Herro looked like an offensive monster in the bubble, soon becoming one of the primary offensive options for the Heat. He has shown incremental improvement over the last few seasons but he is in danger of stagnation.

The Heat had to move Herro to the bench for his lack of defensive impact, something he needs to work on if he wants to be a starting quality player in the NBA. We have seen many high-volume scorers be branded as 6th men before and Herro is close to becoming one of those players.

The contract is a big one from Miami and they have to commit to developing Herro further as they look to repeat their 2020 Finals run this season.
