Widely regarded as one of the best shooters in the history of the game, Stephen Curry has come a long way since being drafted seventh overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2009 NBA Draft. While fellow compatriot LeBron James is widely acknowledged for his unmatched longevity, Curry has also stayed at the top level for years to his credit.

But with the Olympic gold medalist now in his 16th season in the NBA, basketball fans have been anxious over whether a retirement any time soon is in Curry’s plans. However, Stephen Curry has seemingly put those speculations to rest. In a recent interview on 95.7 The Game, the Warriors star said that he would like to continue playing for as long as he can at the top level of the game.

“I know my contract is lined up, and I’d like to outplay that, for sure. I’ve tried to answer that question before and I’ve said a lot of different things just based on how I feel that day. But it’s all measured by the style of ‘Can I get to that level?’ that I expect from myself.

“It’s not attached to points per game or a stats thing; it’s can I dominate a game? Can I play my style for 30 minutes a game? You reevaluate that every year.”

This season, Curry has been averaging 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists on 44.8 FG% for the Warriors, which is not the best return from the two-time MVP. He has struggled to stay fit this term, in part due to a knee injury he’s been playing with. Clearly, the franchise led by head coach Steve Kerr is trying to manage him as age has finally crept up on his side.

Stephen Curry Reveals He Is Eyeing A Fifth NBA Title

But despite his lingering knee problems and a noticeable drop in his performances in games this season, Curry has admitted that he wants to win a fifth championship with the Warriors.

While his name is already etched in the team’s history books in San Francisco, the four-time NBA champion is hoping to be crowned a winner again. Speaking on the same show, he recalled how somebody recently asked him what his goals for still playing in the league are.

“Somebody asked me this summer, ‘What are you still playing for?’ [Ring No.5] That’s literally the only thing you’re playing for… I like where we’re at right now. I think we have what it takes to do it.”

The Warriors are currently sitting in sixth place in the Western Conference with a 37-28 record. Even though they have recorded five consecutive victories on the bounce since a 126-119 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on March 1st, they aren’t exactly in the best position at the moment to mount a worthy challenge.

The in-form Los Angeles Lakers (fourth position), along with the Houston Rockets (fifth position) sit above them in a hotly contested race for the 2024-25 playoffs. However, fans will be glad to hear that Curry isn’t calling time on his career anytime soon, and hearing him speak of winning another title speaks to his elite mentality.
