Kevin Durant Shakes Mike Budenholzer Off While Arguing With Him During Game

Kevin Durant's relationship with Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer keeps going from bad to worse.

The Phoenix Suns need to find a way to patch up their sinking chemistry, as it keeps affecting the team on the court. This was reflected during their game against the Los Angeles Clippers tonight, as forward Kevin Durant publicly disagreed with head coach Mike Budenholzer.

As Durant was walking after a busted offensive play, Coach Bud tried grabbing Durant’s arm. This prompted the 36-year-old forward to shake the coach off while admonishing him with a visibly animated face.

This comes as another example of a growing list of instances where Durant has gotten excessively frustrated on the court. We saw him get mad at Mason Plumlee, try to punch a Pelicans player mid-game, and slam the team after one of their many losses over the last month.

Coach Budenholzer doesn’t have a lot of fans sticking up for him at the moment. Even Suns star Devin Booker was asked about having a fractured relationship with the head coach, but publicly defended and backed his coach.

“No, coach said it too – we have multiple conversations and I can’t seem to find one that sticks out more than others. It’s a player-coach relationship. When things start going back, everybody tries to point the finger to find out what is wrong. People are gonna come up with stuff. The relationship is great. We’re on the same page, we’re trying to win, and that’s that.”

Whatever they say, the situation is looking pretty dire for the Suns. They’re trailing by over 20 points to the Clippers in the third quarter, so this is going to be yet another loss for the franchise.

Kevin Durant is widely expected to be on his way out this summer but that doesn’t change the fact that the Suns can still sneak into the West Play-In. The No. 10 seeded Dallas Mavericks lost Kyrie Irving for the season, with Irving’s injury likely meaning Anthony Davis postpones his on-court return to next year.

This gives the Suns an opportunity to make the Playoffs if they can smarten up their act. But they look so disconnected and devoid of chemistry on-court that this seems like an impossible possibility at this point.
