At 40 years old, LeBron James just hit his latest NBA milestone and it may be his most impressive of all. In the first quarter against the Pelicans, James hit his first shot of the game (a three-pointer) to secure the historic milestone: 50,000 career points (regular season and playoffs.

It was a special night for King James and yet another amazing achievement to add to his resume. On X, fans reacted how you might expect: with amazement and shock over LeBron becoming the first NBA player ever to hit 50,000 career points.

“This is greatness, and we don’t know how much time we have left to see it live,” wrote one fan in awe.

Considering how long it took for LeBron to reach this milestone, some are wondering when/if we’ll ever see another player pull off the same feat.

“No one in my lifetime is ever beating this record,” argued one Lalers fan.

One dedicated Lakers fan did the math and concluded that there’s no way another player could ever reach the 50,000 mark again.

“It took 40 years to break Kareem’s record. Someone will have to play at least 22 years straight and average 27ppg in the regular season and 30ppg in the playoffs,” wrote one fan on X. “Oh, plus they have to make the finals 10 times lol.”

Naturally, Michael Jordan’s name came up a lot as many fans used this moment to argue their case on the GOAT debate.

“Where’s all you Jorfrauds at,” wrote a die-hard LeBron fan. “Supposedly the best scorer? Only 1 player in NBA history got 50K AND that’s LeBron James the undeniable GOAT and current MVP at AGE 40 in year 22!”

Whether you love LeBron or hate LeBron, it was a special moment for the King and a testament to his incredible work ethic over 20 long years.

“Feels surreal to me,” wrote one emotional fan. “Just unbelievable, history made.”

LeBron surpassed Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list back in March of 2019. It only took him roughly four more years (Feb. 7, 2023) to pass Kareem for the top spot. Now, at 50,000 points, James is truly in uncharted territory and the record he set may stand for decades to come.

The craziest part about this moment for LeBron is that he still has more left to give. With averages of 24.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game this season, LeBron James hasn’t lost a beat and he’s got the Lakers in a position to compete for a title.

So while James has been open about this upcoming retirement, he’s not done adding to his legacy. In fact, every point that LeBron scores is history and if he’s able to take the Lakers to the depths of the playoffs, there may be new life to his NBA GOAT case.
