LeBron James is on the verge of yet another historic milestone, as he now stands just 79 points away from becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 50,000 career points across the regular season and playoffs.

After dropping 27 points against the Dallas Mavericks, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is inching closer to an unprecedented achievement that further cements his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time.

LeBron’s combined regular season and playoff scoring total is currently at 49,921 points, with 41,759 points in the regular season and 8,162 points in the postseason.

This total already places him as the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s previous record two seasons ago. However, the 50,000-point milestone is another level of dominance, as no other player has ever reached this mark.

What makes this even more remarkable is that LeBron is achieving this milestone at 40 years old, playing at an elite level that few could have imagined.

Since turning 40, he has been putting up 26.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game, shooting 54.7% from the field and 44.0% from three-point range. For any player, these numbers would be considered elite, but for a 40-year-old in his 22nd season, it’s downright unprecedented.

Given that LeBron is averaging 24.7 points per game this season, we can estimate that he will likely break the record within the next 3-4 games. The Lakers’ upcoming schedule provides a clear timeline for when he could hit this historic mark:

– vs. Minnesota Timberwolves – February 27

– vs. Los Angeles Clippers – February 28

– vs. Los Angeles Clippers – March 2

– vs. New Orleans Pelicans – March 4

– vs. New York Knicks – March 6

Based on his season averages, LeBron is most likely to break the 50K mark in his third game against the Clippers on March 2. But, given the Lakers’ evolving offense with Luka Doncic getting more comfortable and taking on more of the scoring load, LeBron might need an extra game to reach the milestone.

If he doesn’t reach it by March 2, then the March 4th game against the New Orleans Pelicans would likely be the night history is made.

Reaching 50,000 career points is a milestone that could stand the test of time. While future stars like Victor Wembanyama and Luka Doncic may aim for this feat, the longevity, consistency, and dominance required make it extremely difficult to surpass. LeBron continues to redefine what’s possible for an NBA player, proving that even at 40 years old, he remains among the elite.

The Lakers will surely honor the moment in a big way, and NBA fans around the world will witness another historic chapter in LeBron James’ legendary career.
