Kyrie Irving is well-known for being a top-tier point guard on the basketball court. He is one of the most electric scorers in the league, and his ballhandling ability is very highly regarded. Currently, Kyrie Irving is averaging 25.9 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 5.4 APG on the season.
This year, we’ve seen Kyrie Irving miss home games due to local restrictions regarding individuals who are unvaccinated for COVID-19 in New York City. There is no doubt that his status as a part-time player has hurt the team. Though the restrictions prohibited him from playing in home games, he is allowed to attend home games courtside, and he notably bought tickets to seat courtside against the New York Knicks.
While Kyrie Irving was allowed to sit courtside, it seems as though he still ended up breaking health and safety protocols. Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the Nets were fined $50K, as they let Kyrie Irving into the locker room. Wojnarowski revealed that Irving was “allowed to enter the arena”, but was prohibited from entering “the work environment”, with the locker room being considered part of that.

NBA fined the Brooklyn Nets $50K for violating local health and safety protocols by letting Kyrie Irving into the team locker room on Sunday.
Kyrie Irving is allowed to enter the arena, but not the workplace environment — and the locker room is considered part of the Nets’ workplace environment at the Barclays Center. Ultimately, the NBA fined the organization — not Irving — for the violation.
There is no doubt that Kyrie Irving’s absences will continue to be an issue for the Brooklyn Nets, especially during the playoffs. Hopefully, there will be a resolution to this issue sooner rather than later.
Kyrie Irving is without a doubt a transcendent individual on the basketball court, and perhaps we’ll see the Brooklyn Nets get him back full-time in the future. They are a scary team when fully healthy, and hopefully we get to see them at full strength in the coming weeks.
