The modern era of the NBA has seen the rise of several prominent players, with the scoring guards emerging as one of the more exciting archetypes. From players like Allen Iverson to Stephen Curry, there have been many notable figures in this category. But none may have been as unique as Kyrie Irving.
On his day, Kyrie Irving could safely be considered one of the most creative and gifted scorers in NBA history. Along with his unpredictable ball-handling package, Irving boasted a complete offensive arsenal, asserting his status as an elite multi-level scorer and possibly the greatest off-hand finisher the game has ever seen.
The 2025-26 season, while exciting, saw a glaring dip in creativity with Kyrie Irving sidelined. Hence, when reacting to his own clips during a recent livestream, the Dallas Mavericks superstar couldn’t help but be in awe of his own abilities, as he stated:
“Y’all will never see another player like me… ever. You’ll never see another player like me, and I’m fine with that. But you will see someone better than me, for sure. But you’ll never see another player like that. I’m cut from a different cloth.”

In a compilation that included unreal finishes at the rim and a collection of ankle-snatching dribbles, Irving clearly demonstrated why he is considered one of the most creative offensive players in the NBA. Hence, even though he stated that there may be “better” players than him, his comment about his unique and inimitable playing style is bound to resonate with fans.
Kyrie Irving Geared To Return Next Season
Much of the 2025-26 season was spent waiting for Kyrie Irving to return to action after his ACL injury in March 2025. Although the initial reports suggested that the nine-time All-Star would make his comeback at some point during the season, the Mavericks’ poor performance and their inevitable failure to secure a playoff spot convinced Dallas to be more patient.
In many ways, this approach may have paid off for the Mavericks, as recent updates suggest that Irving has completely recovered from his injury. Given that the guard is now at full strength and his workouts, which even left Dallas head coach Dusty May in awe, have generated traction on social media, NBA fans are undoubtedly eager to see him back in action.
But how impactful will Kyrie Irving be next season?
Although Irving missed the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign, he is likely to remain a key figure in the team’s offensive game plan. Given that he averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 40.1% from three-point range during the 2024-25 season, there is enough evidence to suggest he will be impactful if he can match this standard of production.
Realistically, Irving will be the focal point of the offense alongside Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg. Last season provided a brief glimpse into what Flagg could bring to the table. Now, with Irving acting as the counterpoint to the forward, Dallas’ offense could be firing on all cylinders.
Although Kyrie Irving’s return, along with Flagg’s development under Irving’s mentorship, will be prominent storylines for the Mavericks entering the new campaign, there are doubts about the team’s ability to compete in a stacked Western Conference.
Having made minimal roster moves this summer, Dallas may find itself in a relatively vulnerable position when competing with some of the top teams in the NBA. Thus, even with Irving returning to action this season, the Mavericks do not give the impression of being a playoff-bound team just yet.
