The Dallas Mavericks will have a lot to look forward to going into the new season. With a new front office and a new head coach at the helm, the Mavericks have undergone some notable changes. However, aside from the development of the young core, the organization and the fan base will look forward to Kyrie Irving‘s long-awaited return to the court.

Kyrie Irving missed the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign while recovering from an injury. Although his return was teased at multiple points during the season, the nine-time All-Star and the franchise agreed that waiting until he was completely recovered would be the best move.

Needless to say, since his condition improved, Irving has been hard at work gearing up for his comeback. Still, when head coach Dusty May witnessed the nine-time All-Star in action during a workout, the superstar guard left him speechless.

“I spoke with Kyrie and actually witnessed a workout this morning, and I felt like I left the gym watching Picasso paint a picture,” May stated. “We’ll leave that up to later, but yeah, we’re excited about Kyrie.”

It goes without saying that Irving is one of the most elegant players to watch when he’s going to work. While boasting some of the best handles in the business, Irving pairs his virtuoso dribbling with an unpredictable flow and style that is only comparable to streetball.

The recent footage of Kyrie Irving’s workouts and drills has looked immensely promising. Given what he is capable of doing when healthy, the Mavericks will only hope to see him return to the court at full strength.

Can Kyrie Irving Have An Impact On The Mavs Next Season?

The 2025-26 season was one the Dallas Mavericks would choose to forget. Although Cooper Flagg‘s ROTY campaign was impressive, the team’s 26-56 record, along with the major roster changes that took place during the season, was less noteworthy.

On that note, the Mavs will be entering the next campaign with a promising outlook toward rebuilding. Having acquired solid pieces and drafted fresh, young talent, the Mavericks are bound to be exciting. From a competitive standpoint, however, they may not be as promising.

That is, unless Kyrie Irving plays a major role in the rotation.

As the primary point guard, Irving has a significant impact on the team’s offensive production. Given that he is also their best scoring option, the Mavericks will certainly look to the nine-time All-Star to be a factor in facilitating winning next season and a catalyst for Flagg’s development.

From an impact perspective, Kyrie Irving could sway some wins for the Mavs next season if he remains healthy. But considering how deep the West is, it is unlikely Dallas will be a playoff team, at least as constructed.

Overall, it will be necessary for fans to temper expectations with Irving this season. Given that he’s missed well over a year of action, the guard will take time to find his footing. Still, given his career averages of 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, Mavs fans can expect some eye-catching displays of offensive mastery once Irving settles into his groove again.
